Absolutely will be hopping on the manga in short notice because dear me, I need to see the rest of this through. The final moments in the last episode fucked me up good, and now I have a veritable case of brainworms thanks to this goddamn work. This is, what the youths say nowadays, peak fiction.

My initial interest in Journal With Witch was based on seeing an out of context panel and liking how it portrayed Asa's grief in a way contrary to most depictions in other media, and while that is still a major reason to my adoration of this anime, what I found was so much more.

Makio. Asa. Minori. Emiri. Kasamachi. Each of these characters are crafted with utmost passion, each feeding into the other as they elevate one another as the narrative fleshes them out, and they all coalesce into something beautiful. 'There isn't a single thing irrelevant to you', indeed.

Even now, it boggles my mind as to how well everything is connected in both a literal and thematic sense. Every detail is necessary to fully understand what the show presents, and it's done in such an economic way as well… what a deeply intelligent story, and one that especially hits home for me.

Journal With Witch (Anime)

What a show. Deftly compact in its core narrative of two women learning to live after a tragic accident while continuously weaving a larger tapestry of rumination on contemporary society. Some of the most emotional storytelling I've seen in a good while, too. 4.5/5.

It has definitely been a majorly debilitating weight on my mind, that much is clear. The fun part is dissecting it in all its labyrinthine fragmented-ness and wondering where to start
