I would submit that a gerrymander by politicians saying fuck the voters and one by voters saying fuck the politicians are two wholly different animals

McClatchy has fallen.
First the NWSL's social account gleefully spotlights Jameis Winston on the sidelines at a Gotham game this season, now the league welcomes the Haslams as owners of a new Columbus side.
Women's sports: We don't have to prop up or do business with problematic men just b/c they're rich or famous.
Yeah, I just ran out of space. And Heisman runner-up Randy Duncan. And WaPo film critic Ann Hornaday. And the Higgins boys (Steve and Dave). And Bill Bryson.
My high school's got nothing but 100-plus years of nobodies. Accomplished people, but no one famous.
This is a great story by my friend Barb Boose. I call Roosevelt my alma mater I never attended, but I have so many friends who did I get invited to class reunions. It's most famous alum is Cloris Leachman, the school's theater is named for her. Olympian Lolo Jones too.
A big misconception about Iowa girls' sports is that all the schools had them. But the cities didn't until Title IX. At Des Moines Roosevelt HS, the lone sport for girls for a long time was the Sharks synchronized swim team. The club celebrates 100 years this week. dsmmagazine.com/2026/03/10/w...

In fact, I am working from home today because the office internet is out and I am going to play it right now
I love that record. I bought that album (yes, album) back when it was released. I still listen to it. It's so much more interesting than the fluff that came later (which is perfect pop, it's just not the same as that first album)
It remains notable that The Onion — The Onion! — has had a stronger moral compass and more clear set of values in this moment than nearly every powerful and well-funded institution in American life.
And the crazy thing is, there are so many of the killings that the names of the killers no longer sink in and the fame they seek is not acquired. Maybe in their own community, but people knew them there anyway. It's all so sad and maddening.

I don't think I'll ever get over Clarence Thomas ruling on cases related to Jan 6 knowing that his wife was an active participant in the attempted coup.
Or ruling on cases related to government regulations and a wealth tax knowing he took gifts from billionaires.
It's a disgrace.
I'm not joking when I say mRNA technology is more important than "AI" and it's a tragedy we're throwing billions into one while our government is aggressively defunding the other.
Small business tyrants want the state to assure they have a highly exploitable, easily disposable workforce to maximize their profits and keep their faulty precarious ventures afloat in a system destined to consume them—and the assurance of a non-citizen status is how to do that.

“The next president must say on day one: We’re tearing down this arch; we’re razing Trump’s ballroom…Washington ceremonial architecture must be returned to the purpose for which it exists—to promote democracy, not the demented, bruised ego of one sick man.”

Thanks for the nudge, I plan to be there!
I think when I posted the gymnastics news on my Facebook page I said something like 'Here comes women's wrestling.'
And on the bike trails too. Usually middle-age white dudes blasting hiphop interrupting everyone's peace and quiet in the woods. It's infuriating.
On March 3, Iowa State drops women's gymnastics. On April 16, the school adds women's wrestling. That was quick. janeburns.substack.com/p/iowa-state...
For years, back when newsrooms were fun, the Des Moines Register copy desk held a Merle Haggard Appreciation Day every 4/6. Cake, music, decorations. The brainchild of a superfan who made everyone else love Merle, too.
“They used to call them convenience stores. What the hell kind of word is ‘convenience’? I said, ‘Make it simple. The store is on the corner, just call it a corner store.’ And now people thank me every day because it’s so much easier to say.”
I know nothing of this, thanks!
Don’t believe me? Caitlin Clark’s grandpa was a guy named Bob Nizzi, who coached the local powerhouse Catholic school’s football team
