First thrush I have seen in many years. Hampstead heath. These seemed very common when I was young. Have they declined a lot????
I’ve read all the biographies & Crick’s autobiography too, but I feel like I got to know the real person in this book. A masterpiece, because of the brilliant writing and research of @matthewcobb.bsky.social
Includes a cameo from Mnemiopsis leidyi 🤩
These images show live embryos of animals (jellyfish, crustacean, worm, sea urchin, sea squirt, beetle) and one of animals closest single-celled relatives. They were captured taking advantage of fluorescent proteins localised on the outer membrane of cells, allowing us to observe cell outlines. 1/9

My first Hoopoe. Seen at the extraordinary Greek temples at Paestum, south of Naples. Best preserved in the world and there are three of them.

I have a Smiths joke but It's too close to home, And it's too near the bone, More than you'll ever know.
Opinion: Given the models currently implemented for protein phylogenetics in widely used phylogenetics tools, we should be more concerned about the biases induced by overly simple models that are misspecified than problems associated with overparameterization.
