Honestly fascinated by really good songs from other works (movies, albums, musicals) that are...not.
The '90s Shadow movie is very...not good. But Jim Steinman (who also penned "Total Eclipse of the Heart") and Taylor Dayne did an operatic femme fatale anthem for the ages.

While established publications are cutting trans reporting, our worker-run trans newsroom is taking on the powerful.

Israeli genocide scholar Omer Bartov will have his book on Zionism and genocide translated into 9-10 languages, but not Hebrew. He even offered to translate it himself, but not a single Israeli publisher would go near it. Not even the ‘leftwing’ ones.

Still here, y'all.
Conservatives think the state should protect them from the traumatizing experience of encountering people unlike them. For some reason this never came up in the heyday of “snowflake,” “trigger warning” or “safe space” discourse bsky.app/profile/kiss...

I mean, I'm sure someone in the South has made them at some point, but they're thoroughly a prairie/western dish.
That's way out west, hence the Rocky Mountain name.
Down here we have actual oysters and they're delicious.
Exempt from the "what food from your own cuisine is terrible" thing on account of being from the South.
Look, there's plenty of things wrong down here, but the tastiness of the food ain't one of them.
Good and sensible thread. Also, I've been an active leftist for 50 years and was a university professor for 20+. The university was far more petty.
I don't know how anyone can accept a racist and transphobe as a campaigner for the survivors of Jeffrey Epstein when some of his survivors are neither white nor cis.
Damn. Like no seasoning at all?
I just finished rereading this. It's truly magical.
a black and white design that reads "you could learn a lot from a lesbian." to the right of the text are various items such as carabiners, a boot, a lollipop, a hammer, a boot, an apple, a lighter, cherries, a bouquet of flowers, a butterfly wing, and many stars. the entire image is textured to be grainy.
happy #lesbianvisibilityweek!

Sigh. This is going to be one of those "it was both" reveals, ain't it...
I'm sorry, that can be a really hard process.
It's so due for an aggressively eco-anarchist remake.
I'd add Highlander and Glorantha, but I don't know how niche those are.

That's another aspect, yes.
*radicals, what I get for typing too fast
A major feature of politics in a crumbling, highly hierarchical social order is the servile model — that exalted political/media figures act as saviors who people have to unwaveringly support — whenever radicals offer any basic criticism or even point out a weakness, well, once again, "infighting."
And yes, of course, actual leftist infighting does happen (radicals are human beings), and when ot happens online it's particularly visible.
But since a lot of what gets lumped into that category ain't, it's worth grappling with why we're so frequently fed this view of anyone fighting for change.
Absent in a lot of this "why do you tear down your heroes???" line is why automatic followership is a good (its track record ain't), why any criticism is automatically a teardown or why, in any remotely egalitarian politics, figures with power should be above consequences for their actions.
