Cheating at selling my car to become a 1-car family, saving an estimated $12k per year (according to AAA), burning calories, reducing my carbon footprint, and commuting to work year round for the last 5 years? Guilty, I guess.
There are divisions of labor within technical that were set up *in the 19th Century* for this sort of thing.
Collapsing that back down because used car dealership and realtor captured state legislatures don't want to fund *anything* means there's just not going to be dissemination of research.
...then fund extension agencies.
One of my dept's office staff threw away a stainless steel Bunn coffee maker from the break room and replaced it with a plastic Keurig carafe/k-cup combo that brews a pot of coffee at 1/2 the pace of the Bunn. The Bunn was going to last another few decades. The Keurig a few years max. #RetroGrouch

Also, the number of times I've had to walk around a vehicle stopped over a crosswalk greatly exceeds the number of times I've seen a pedestrian walking slowly through a crossing. Plus, walking slowly isn't illegal. Blocking a crossing is.

Mamdani hasn't had time to really think about all that space he now has, because he spends most of his time at City Hall and around New York City. He tries to keep a semblance of his old life by getting around the city on foot, by bike or train. "If you spend every single day driving around in a tinted window security detail, you will have a very specific view of the city," he said. "You actually meet other New Yorkers and you break out of the bubble that so many have come to expect of politics, where politicians only seem to be spending time with other politicians or the people who donated to make them politicians."
I'd say that this applies to anyone traveling in a car in any city. Being in a car versus walking, riding, or taking transit fundamentally changes how you view a place and your relationship to it. I wish more leaders set this kind of example.

You’d think the reverse would also be true but it turns out the worst part of any car ride is also cars.
The worst part of any bike ride is cars.
My wife and I did our honeymoon in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. This is devastating news. www.mprnews.org/story/2026/0...

I was busting my kid's chops tonight for only watching YouTube videos that are other people playing video games or watching TV shows while giving commentary. Then, 20 minutes later after I turn a college baseball game on the TV, he points out that I'm also watching a game with commentary. #GotMe
I’ll say it once again- earth science education is important!!!

The most remarkable landforms in every photo from this spot are the two prominent and perfect stream terraces.
Population density remains the laziest fallback for why good transportation investment isn't worth it.
Over half of trips are under 3 miles NATIONALLY.
30% are under a mile.
You know what helps density? Decreasing car storage needs. Normalizing errands to local small businesses.
The bills attempting to lower the speed limits for ebikes are infuriating.
If we can't ride the speed limit on residential streets, you are putting us in danger.
If you're going to lower the e bike speed limit to 16 mph, than the speed limit for cars on residential streets should also be 16 mph.

Humanity did that. Science did that. Publicly-funded research did that. Excellent universities did that. Diversity did that. International cooperation did that.
Artemis II is a perfect example of what we can do at our best.

Today's set of afternoon meetings and emails left me inspired to put Rage Against the Machine on blast.
Totally unrelated... it should be the goal of every leader/administrator to give people something to fight for, not something to fight against.
Never forget, a 13-year study found that protected bike-lanes led to a drastic decline in fatalities for all road users.
ALL ROAD USERS.
What about painted bike-lanes? No safety improvement at all.
For sharrows, it’s actually safer to NOT have them.
