Did you know session legend Vic Flick played guitar on Ron Grainer’s The Prisoner theme tune? He’s also behind the iconic 007 riff in Dr. No and featured on hits like Tom Jones’s ‘It’s Not Unusual’ and Petula Clark’s ‘Downtown’. #ThePrisoner #VicFlick

4:31am 19th March 1928… Patrick McGoohan was born 98 years ago today. Posthumous birthday wishes Patrick! #theprisoner #manyhappyreturns #patrickmcgoohan
There’s a big treat in store for UK viewers tonight. As part of BBC4’s Ibsen season, they are showing the filmed 1959 play ‘Brand’, which made Patrick McGoohan the toast of theatreland and set him on his way to above-the-title stardom. Tune in tonight at 11:50, or iPlayer.
We are thrilled to have contributed to A Splash of Objection on a Canvas. @RodneyMarshall1 has put together a gem of a book. There’s even a lovely afterword by Andrew (son of Ronald) Radd. Available now in hardback and paperback. amzn.eu/d/0bFGdLt4 #theprisonerat60
In the penultimate episode of ITV’s Sooty & Co (December 1998), Matthew Corbett takes Sooty, Sweep, Soo & Scampi to Portmeirion — his favourite TV show’s location. He even sports a (sort of!) Number Six outfit. #sooty #portmeirion #theprisoner #sweep #sootyandco #sootyandsweep
This iconic moment marked Rover’s first appearance in Arrival. A small Rover was shot using an air rifle, allowing the props team to cut seamlessly to a full-size version right after the crash zoom. An amazing practical effect for 1966. #portmeirion #theprisoner #rover #arrival
When Clough Williams-Ellis bought some land for a modest sum, he didn’t have a plan. Aber Iâ became Portmeirion - soon to be a ‘home for fallen buildings.’ The village has continued to evolve for over a century. #portmeirion #theprisoner #cloughwilliamsellis
It’s hard to believe that 2026 marks 60 years since filming began on The Prisoner. As you walk around Portmeirion, there is always something to appreciate, with shots from the series indelibly etched on your mind. #portmeirion #theprisoner #patrickmcgoohan #northwales
Another peaceful day in the Village. Showers later #portmeirion #theprisoner
’Dear Diary,
An odd morning. Woke up left-handed, having gone completely off my favourite cigarettes, and suddenly unable to tell the difference between flapjacks and pancakes. On the plus side, have grown a superb moustache overnight.‘ #theschizoidman #theprisoner
In a 1967 TV Times interview, David Tomblin described McGoohan’s brutal routine: studio 7am–5:30pm, cutting room till 10pm, writing until 2am. Little wonder he suffered 3 nervous breakdowns. Doctors advised rest which the actor ignored “you can’t let up when you’re in charge!”
Today, January 13th, we remember Patrick McGoohan (1928–2009). Actor, writer, director, producer, and the visionary force behind The Prisoner, a show that is still asking the questions that matter. #patrickmcgoohan #theprisoner

I asked film students to write down the elements that were consistent in established Christmas movies. Each one is present in Die Hard - set at Christmas, music, themes of family and redemption, Christmas paraphernalia… The ending even features some ‘snow’ courtesy of falling debris ;)
Our Christmas Special is released on Dec 22! This year, we dive into the press and public reactions to The Prisoner in 1967/68 from bewildered critics to fascinated viewers.
Re-enter the Village with us for a festive deep-dive into the show’s earliest impact. #ThePrisoner
Sounds like fun! It’s hard to gauge, we’re only going off an interview with Robin Llewelyn about Portmeirion’s arts visitors in the first half of the 20th century.
Donald Sinden, Peter Wyngarde and Paul Eddington all took a turn as Garry Essendine in ‘Present Laughter’ with Patrick McGoohan once playing Fred the valet. Fittingly, playwright Noël Coward was a frequent visitor to Portmeirion and wrote ‘Blithe Spirit’ there. #presentlaughter
