I’ve suggested this at Massey. It’s a tough job, prepping to read names, and I know that staff take it seriously and practise as much as they can, so I really feel for them when they stumble, as well as for the students. Having to record my (very normy) name to graduate at Vic was a revelation

b) that’s an ethical choice they made;

A birthday cake made for me by my friend Catherine based on a Woman’s Weekly cake book version. It’s a werewolf (it was around Halloween) but looks like a slightly deranged but harmless dog/bear. It has brown icing and marzipan eyes, nose, tongue and teeth. It’s hilarious and delightful and tasted great

Totally. It doesn’t even have to be a gruel bar though .It’s the store-bought cake (that can be *fine*, tasty even) but it is emphatically not the same as the birthday cake made with love and personality and individuality and is appreciated by the maker and receiver on a whole different level 🍰👯❤️
