I don’t know why I’ve made this my mission, but every year instead of recommending 3 books I share about a book, a video game, and a board game.
Conducting this interview was so, so, so helpful to me as a faith leader and a human being. If you get a chance to read it, I hope it helps you too.
Writer Tom Montgomery Fate chats with Jon about the peaceful protests at the ICE facility in Broadview, IL, where several faith leaders were recently arrested.

Bar Harbor, Maine, is just mostly ice cream shops. In other words, heaven.
I know “time is money” for Uber drivers more obviously than many others, but could they possibly wait for me to buckle my seat belt before they screech ahead in an attempt to break the sound barrier?
Okay I am watching this New Heights episode with Taylor and I admit, it slaps (when I try to say something cool I have to use words from like 10 years ago)
It’s puzzling to me: these conservative evangelicals are out here talking about truth-telling, truth-telling, truth-telling, but you tell them the truth that they’re ass clowns and they get upset.
You’re welcome! Nice to “meet” you. Our disagreements aside, great job with the book. I’m curious how it is landing in the more conservative evangelical world.
In case you want to read something a little punchy this morning. In this double book review I make the case that evangelicals probably aren’t going to be the ones to give the most meaningful critiques of evangelicalism.
Hopefully some scholars will write about why public CEO infidelity at a Coldplay concert can save the morale of a dying nation. Seriously, I’d read that.

Um, relatable content.
Mac Loftin makes the case that artificial intelligence is evil (to Jon, who sort of likes AI).

Gas is so expensive here in Pittsburgh, PA.
Thanks Obama. I mean Biden. I mean Kamala. I mean California governor Gavin Newsom.
I stumbled upon a video of Counting Crows covering “the 1” by Taylor Swift, which is so well-suited for me specifically that I think when the US crumbles and war takes us all I will die happy.
Don’t miss @jonmathieu.bsky.social’s chat with @caitwest.bsky.social about evangelicalism, Amish country, and high-control religion.

You ever do that thing where you’re interviewing someone for a magazine and you reach into your pocket for a tissue but instead pull out a length of toilet paper that you forgot was there because your bathroom tissue box ran out?
I’m grateful to Jon Mathieu and everybody at the Christian Century @christiancentury.bsky.social for giving me an opportunity to say more about my recent piece about consent, violence, and the plight of Remeysa Ozturk.

Really fun and interesting chat with @alanlevinovitz.bsky.social about teaching religion in a university setting.
This essay has it all: Anthony Bourdain, cool theology… okay it has two things, but still it’s great.
This was a fun conversation, and I really appreciate this take on demons.
A pro-Russia intelligence director, an anti-vaccine health secretary. Cool. Cool cool cool.
Someone signed off an email with “PoC,” and my mind scrolled through "Person of color” and ”Piece of crap” before landing on “Peace of Christ.”
On X, my sister (running for judge) was targeted by a right-wing hate group. About 150 of the comments insulted her appearance, sexuality, or gender. I reported the 10 worst comments to the site. The over/under for how many will be disciplined by X is 1. (I should say we’re 0 for the first 5.)
