Last year we won Philly’s first AI hearing, exposing a black box with no guardrails. Now reporting shows police have been using AI-powered drones in daily police work since 2024.

When ICE terrorizes communities, it’s not acting alone.

Palantir builds the surveillance tech powering raids — and PA politicians are taking their money.

You can’t profit from ICE violence and claim to oppose it. Tell your reps: No more Palantir money! purgepalantir.com/take-action/

Data centers guzzle electricity & water, pollute the air & prey on the working class. The only benefit they provide is to the billionaires who build them.

We know what keeps us safe. We need parks, libraries, schools, and jobs. Not black box AI that makes our lives worse while making billionaires richer.

The stakes are high. The people have a vision. The mayor has to hear us. Councilmembers are on alert; we have to make sure they keep pushing back.

AI is accelerating every day into every aspect of our lives. City Council has the power to ban the most harmful uses of AI in city systems, prohibit the expansion of toxic data centers, and ensure high-stakes decisions that impact YOU aren’t left to an algorithm.

The city’s top tech heads had nothing – no clarity about how life-or-death City departments use, or regulate AI in city systems, or how they protect our privacy and stop bias. They couldn’t even say whether the Parker admin will share our data and collaborate with ICE on deportations.

Packed hearing, dodged questions. At the first-ever City Council hearing on Philly gov’s use of AI and surveillance, City Councilmembers asked powerful, basic questions to open up the city’s black box of technology, and were disappointed by the city’s lack of answers.

Alli Finn joined Philly Tech Justice Collective, TechTonic Justice & Philly Thrive to testify in a city council meeting on Philly's use of AI and technology. Alli cautioned legislators: public tech must serve public needs, rather than corporate power and profits.

Councilmember Landau asks about whether the City is using AI for public safety.

CIO says no, they aren't.

Councilmember Landau says that it's a matter of public record that the City is using Shotspotter and facial recognition.

Multiple councilmembers asked about whether the Parker administration would commit to preventing ICE and access to data from public safety tools powered by "AI".

CIO says they would need to get back to the council about that, and confer with the police department. #PhillyAIHearing

Lots of questions about the exact tech and companies that the City is using for tech like license plate readers, or public safety. Melissa Scott, the CIO, doesn't really seem to know much about it. #PhillyAIHearing

Every AI tool is powered by data centers that guzzle our water & electricity.

The Delaware River provides drinking water for 14M ppl including Philly, and that fresh water is at risk.

AI is everywhere in Philly. But where does that data go? Who has access? Who decides how it’s used? How else could we spend that $?

We have a critical window to demand transparency, accountability, & community control over how tech is used in our city.

We know the “child welfare”/family regulation system is racist. Algorithms & AI are making it worse.

Right now there’s no way to know if or how Philly is using this tech, reproducing racist outcomes & tearing families apart.
