‘The image of luxury towers constructed above mass graves, with tens of thousands presumably buried under the earthworks, embodies the logic of 21st-century genocide.’

Portrait of Badin, unsigned replica of a lost pastel portrait by Gustav Lundberg (1695-1786), dating from 1776.
Pleased to see @mirandabryant.bsky.social's report from the new Badin exhibition at the National Museum in Stockholm, curated by my friend and colleague Åsa Bharathi Larsson of Södertörn University.

I think people should oppose this war because it's illegal, because it's led by two liars who are trying to solve domestic political problems by launching a war, and because it has no clear goals and strategy.

NEW: This is what a ceasefire involving the Israeli government looks like. This was Beirut a few hours ago.
100 targets carpet-bombed in 10 minutes by the IDF across Lebanon. Schools, hospitals and even funerals obliterated.

@nphellstrom.bsky.social
The ages of man by Winter Carl Hansson. Danielsgården, Bingsjö, 1799.
Happy to share that I'm taking up a new post tomorrow as Senior Lecturer in History at Dalarna University. (Image by the Dalarna painter Winter Carl Hansson from 1799, illustrating the stages of human life.)
WHAT DO WE DO WITH THE DEAD?
In 1873, Swedish anatomist Gustaf Retzius plundered Finnish graves at Pälkäne and elsewhere. Following repatriation to Finland in 2024, the remains were subjected to new research at the hands of Finnish researchers. Come discuss the findings and implications at @ki.se!
If the war ends up as a debacle for the US, it is clear that Israel is going to be blamed, and by extension also American Jews, and Jews in general, in a manner surpassing similar accusations regarding the Iraq war. The infrastructure for antisemitism is just far more developed and mainstreamed.

This image from 1588 shows a tree with big bound books grewing instead of fruits. This tree starts in a house organ that is played from a well-dressed woman and a man. The image of part of. abook praising the art of making books, you may find it here if you fancy: http://diglib.hab.de/drucke/uh-20/start.htm
Back in 1588, everyone still knew that book trees grow better when there's music around, and when you speak to them. Attention and house organ music were the key.
Dream job in a dream department with dream colleagues in a lovely place. Everyone and their mother will apply. 😉
This article by @robin-c.bsky.social is an achievement, and should be read by anyone who seeks to understand the relation between racism, antisemitism, and anti-antisemitism.

I'm not sure. I signed a form but it is no longer open. I'd write one or two of the first signatories.
I am but one of 1000+ scholars who have signed this letter in support of UN special rapporteur Francesca Albanese, and in repudiation of the attempts by powerful governments to impede her work for accountability with the aid of fabricated evidence and unsubstantiated allegations.
