A flash of lightning scared a group of rats munching on a discarded slice of pizza. The relentless rain continued all evening, leading to a moonless night still drenched in water. The city of Seoul had been experiencing storms and strong winds for weeks. Its citizens wondered how far politicians would go to keep denying the devastating effects of climate change. As soon as the rats scattered, the bony fingers of an emaciated hand picked up the portion from the ground. The withered figure studied it, the cheese glistening in a mixture of oil and rain. One piece of pepperoni slid down the grease, dropping with a wet plop in a puddle. The man smirked. “What a waste.” His voice was soft and high-pitched, with remnants of a hoarse throat. “Wooyoung, don’t get distracted.” A tall man in a tailored suit hurried him, not stopping to look back to see if he followed. Wooyoung snorted and dropped the pizza. He skipped towards the man ahead, joining his side next to their other two companions. The four silhouettes cast a large shadow in the alleyway when another lightning struck, briefly illuminating the pizza slice. It now lay rotten on the ground, the rain dissolving the last bits of moldy dough. They came with the storms, riding through the dark clouds. As prophesied, the Four Horsemen had arrived to unleash the Apocalypse.
