Journals that published Richard Lynn's racist 'research' articles should retract them Richard Lynn's work has been repeatedly condemned for using flawed methodology and deceptively collated data to support racism. It's past time to retract the studies.

Semi-regular reminder that national IQ studies are pure white supremacist trash

Perhaps there is no clearer indication of how bad the academic job market is than the fact that my 23-year career as a scholar and researcher, plus my current position as department head, make me a top applicant for adjunct positions.

Size is much more concrete so long as you have good theory. It allows you to make physical statements about how one object might interact with another.

Int tests just spawn one a-theoretical exercise in correlation after another.

Either way, staring at a cov mat doesn’t get you far.

So you are mixing up a whole bunch of stuff here.

The bottom line is that you have to be really clear about your traits, causal chains, and realize that analysis of covariance patterns on its own does us no good.

A leading eigenvector with all positive loadings with all variables happens any time you have a positive semidefinite covariance matrix. It says very little about underlying structure.

Size is any of several properties of an organism (centroid, geomean, etc.) and those differ across organisms.

Except that there is not a unitary underlying factor for arm and leg length.

None of the g-factor plus individual topic factor models fit the data either.

Staring at a principal component analysis gets nowhere.

It doesn’t seem like there is much there there when it comes to general intelligence

The idea that every social problem needs a technical solution is so myopic. If you're worried about the smarts of the population, why not just fund public education? And if you're worried about Skynet, maybe try regulating the AI industries...

Creating baby geniuses to thwart the AI threat? (Yes, really.) The new wave of Silicon Valley–backed gene-editing startups is straight out of “Brave New World.”

Reposting this old thread on the "Pervasive findings of directional selection" from ancient DNA. While the authors extended their results in various ways, I think many of these points still stand.

One of the biggest labor battles in the US is happening right now in Los Angeles, at USC, where our faculty-union campaign with majority support is being met by nasty, corporate-grade administrative resistance, and national press won't cover it.

Reply to Nathan Cofnas You gotta believe me.

I wrote a reply to @nathancofnas.bsky.social on Substack. Nathan has been dragging me over his tendentious interpretation of a blog post I wrote 20 years ago, which I already explained many times. Nathan's contention is that I am lying about what I really think, but fortunately he knows better.

By far the most elaborate and forward thinking practical joke ever pulled. Some early member of our genus said “What if there are going to be these people called ‘archaeologists’ in the future who will try to explain how we live? Wouldn’t it be funny if we…” and the rest is prehistory.
