It’s negated by the fact it’s replaced with alternative information that doesn’t fit anywhere else in his story besides as a birthplace. At this point, though, I feel like there’s no other way to end this debate without getting an Overwatch dev to comment on it. But even they’re confused, I think.
?? He canonically stole her bike in the short. This is known. But Route 66 (the map and location in the short) in the Deadlock Gorge, the Deadlock Point of operations, in ARIZONA. Not proving any point there at all.
No longer cited in game, you keep ignoring this point. And again, you keep ignoring the point of when would he have ever been based in Santa Fe. Even when the recall initiated, it’s shown he was in the Eastern US.
It’s been removed for nearly 5 years. Many aren’t removed unless replaced with new information (for example, the Cashe bike interactions). And, what do you know, it’s been replaced with new information. And that information, going forward from that point IS the canon. It’s as simple as it gets.
Genuinely, if you want to cling to a voiceline from near on 5 years ago, even when it’s retconned by new information, be my guest. But claiming him to be Texan as canon now is just blatantly false. Santa Fe makes no sense in his story beyond his birthplace, and that’s as simple as it goes.
It’s not stated in game. It was removed, likely because of the name change, but again. I’m not cherry-picking. The fandom considers New Mexico his birthplace ever since the new information has released. That’s the “canon” now. Not a removed voiceline that has never been reinstated.
It says base of operations, but for many, it also coincides with where they were born. Some, no, it doesn’t. But you can’t cherry pick. It was stated prior to what’s effectively a retcon, which Overwatch 2’s done a lot. The accent isn’t specific to Texas, it’s the “stereotypical” drawl of a cowboy.
He was a bounty hunter on the ROAM. The comics show that, he didn’t ever stay in one place. He wouldn’t have a base of operations. He was a “lonesome, roaming cowboy.”
Yeah, that’s my bad. Deadlock Rebels (the book) fucked around, got my head in a twist. Their base past Ashe’s 18th birthday is in Arizona. Prior, it was temporarily Texas, since that’s where Lead Rose is. Definitely messed up that one. But it does prove my point more, Cass ain’t from there.
I understand they don’t overlap. But again, it makes no sense in lore for that to be marked down for any reason BESIDES his birthplace. It’s not where Deadlock Rebels operated at (either place) OR Blackwatch’s operations. Neither are marked down. It is more than likely, his birthplace.
To put his timeline together, around 16 or 17, he was working in Arizona. That’s where he was locked up when he met Ashe, as that’s where she’s from. After that, he was with Deadlock, which is still based in Arizona. Then Blackwatch. Not based in Santa Fe. It’s more than likely his birthplace.
I know it’s not. His accent is what confused me most when his birthplace came out, it’s not a New Mexican accent by any stretch. If it’s pre-Overwatch 1, I doubt heavily it’s considered canon. New Mexico is where he’s from now, that’s considered the canon. It’s a stretch to jump to Texas.
I also just checked all voice lines (to double check myself). Removed and unremoved on the wiki. The Texas one has never been a voiceline. Where did you find that? I’ve never heard it either?
It’s considered the birthplaces for everyone else in game, always has been. Confused as to why it wouldn’t be here, especially since base of operations for Deadlock Rebels would be in Arizona. Why would he be based in New Mexico if NOT from there, and the Rebels aren’t from there either?

I won't get too venty on here, especially since many of the failures regarding my comms are on me, and most of the blame resides on me and my health issues. I should've taken into account my inability to complete fast art and my living situation before advertising comms so openly.
Also, I fail to update on here often, but my commissions are closed, probably indefinitely. The amount of stress, anxiety, paranoia, and misery that they've caused me for months, unfortunately, isn't worth the money. It's made my mental health take a nosedive. I'm still finishing up old owed though.
