I agree the right certainly has exploited the lack of faith people have in more centrist values and we've seen this before in the end of the 60s and in the Reagan era.

In Canada Chretin moved to the center as Clinton did in the states. I think this is why the Obama backlash was so intense.

I'm not sure I entirely agree with that. Yes currently the more extreme right has a lot of voice right now due to MAGA and is using their voice to kick up a fuss. Yet they're inability to govern effectively for the collective benefit shows that their values are flawed. Even old guys like me see it.
