Most hippies were in it for the sex and drugs. Club goers were in it for… the sex and drugs.
It’s also wild to think that a genre that was driven by queer, black, and latine artists was somehow apolitical

Same thing happens with every popular fad though (Metal and pop songs all adding tab breaks). The level of vitriol directed at disco was far out of proportion fueled by those not living in cities seeing clubs filled with diverse people
