So why were they?
Very brave. I only represent Republicans, not all Americans in my district. Hopefully those independent voters will let him know how they feel about this when he runs for Senate.
Just received notice that our grant was terminated. 5R24AG066599-03

The presidents of all universities should hold a press conference together at the National Press Club in Washington DC condemning the attacks on science and universities and outline the stakes for all Americans. 1/
The entire business model of American R1 universities is not viable without restoration of federal funding, & every individual institution pretending it can solve this problem alone is also not viable. University presidents need to be speaking out, collectively & loudly about this, in DC, right now.
Where are they? In a crisis, they have ceded the public stage to Musk and Trump. It is shameful.
Money talks
The NIH is taking a beating by this short sighted administration. PLEASE read my weekly Substack post to understand why tax payer funded research is SO important and share it with your friends and family, especially those who supported Trump
Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s idea of efficiency is stopping research on curing cancer.
“I’m just an underrepresented person in academia trying to do this work. This just hurts research broadly across the board.” www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
They have killed the Epidemic Intelligence Service AKA “the disease detectives.” These are the experts on the frontlines protecting us from new and old infectious disease threats. Gone. In tbe stroke of a pen.
You won’t hear me boasting. Academic science and industrial science are different and we do a lot of different things. But we still build on each other’s work!
Imagine if university presidents instead of cowering, called up their faculty too speak in a round-the-clock marathon across the nation about how their research serves every American who has ever faced illness and disease.
Because this platform is moderated. This is not Twitter. There is no Elon Musk dominating an algorithm that drags down the platform
Bluesky is unique. We need it to grow.
What the heck are indirect costs? How NIH cuts will devastate science in the UD. open.substack.com/pub/wseandav...
Not entirely. The grants will still pay salaries, at least for now. Basically what they are saying is "you can do the research you proposed, but you have to figure out how to keep the lights on in your lab and pay the accountants and administration you need to follow the thousands of rules we have".
Tesla paid $0 in federal income tax last year.
2022: $0
2021: $0
2020: $0
2019: $0
2018: $0
Tesla reported $6.7 billion in profit in those years.
This website shows you how many jobs NIH funding creates for your state along with the overall economic activity generated.

this is Musk bragging that he will defy the order
Just the slashing--effective immediately--of this funding across all of these institutions will result in tens of thousands of lost jobs, disrupted research, disrupted care.
The Trump regime is quite literally throwing grenades.
