I did an Amtrak trip last summer. CA to NJ and then NJ to FL. If you can’t afford a sleeper room ticket and have to settle for coach fare I would avoid any trip over four hours. It was brutal the two legs I did. Didn’t want to ever fly again but I did fly to get home.
