Mainly I refill my Creative Well by taking a break and waiting for the voices to wind me up enough to type something to shut them up
Mainly movies, books, games and music though

Oh all of it
Writing - full of self doubt and feel as though my reach exceeds my grasp
Publishing - on sites run by gits
Marketing - I have no idea how to sell you all on spending your time and money on me, because we're all in same boat and the world is burning

YOUR PERSONAL ANTAGONIST
Q3: #HorrorWritersChat - What part of the writing, publishing, or marketing process do you struggle with the most?
How do you deal with it?
My antagonists tend to be people in authority who suffer from, what is known in scientific circles, as Little Dick Syndrome
They laud it over people, and why?
They do, because they can
The worst is Marshal Wilkins from Lost Witness
Loves his power and fancies himself Noble

YOUR ANTAGONIST
Q2 - #HorrorWritersChat - Horror is known for having both natural and supernatural antagonists. Describe an antagonist from your horror works and their (dis)function.
e.g. Why do they do what they do?
Back in 1988, people found the metaphor of They Live! too on the nose
Cut to today? Waaaay too subtle 🫣
Hi I'm HD Beird, beard & beard
HD this week stands for How Depressing 😑
I write horror laced with sci-fi, action, smut and dark comedy
My favourite horror villain has gotta be The Thing
It hides in plain sight, gains your trust, and then destroys your life
Like a politician

#AmWriting #HorrorSky
Same as my reading life, I usually deal with the aftermath
It's backstory to add context
I struggle writing action as it is
Plus, I wouldn't really want to write anything war related right now

Perhaps you read more than you write it; perhaps you avoid it on both fronts; perhaps it's all you read and write. Tell me, #pretendpanel...
April 18th: What place does war have in your writing life?
#WritingCommunity #Writers #Authors #WritingPrompts
Most books I've read regarding war deal withaftermath
The Tenth Man by Graham Greene for one stuck with me, but not as much as A Canticle for Leibowitz
How conflict affects people is more powerful I find
The most direct "war" books I've read though?
David Gemmell's "Troy" trilogy

Soon it will be ANZAC Day here in NZ, a day to remember the soldiers sent to the World Wars. It's a worrying topic with what's going on in the world right now, but tell me #pretendpanel

I talked about Horror being an umbrella term for genre for me, so here my books
Check them out
They're good!
"HD Beird's use of visceral and sensual imagery is also a revelation to read and is essential to his writing style."

I could be a right kiss ass and say the best are currently involved in #HorrorWritersChat
And since I got nothing else . . .
The best horror writers are currently involved in #HorrorWritersChat
Films tho? Zach Cregger and Jordan Peele
Bugger, forget the tag

Outro in 10 mins
Heheheheh, yyyyyeah
C-clever
🙄
There is a reason everything I write is in my own created world
And then I do away with continuity between books so I can do whatever
I go into a fugue state, with the help of a cup of tea and a twix, and then I simply
Remember
Been everywhere me
🤥
B-but other than that, I look up the best books or watch video essays by people who are not nutters
Question Three. You’re writing a story set in the past. What is your process for ensuring your worldbuilding and characters are as historically accurate as possible? Let’s do the time warp again.
Q3: #HorrorWritersChat - You’re writing a story set in the past.
What is your process for ensuring your worldbuilding and characters are as historically accurate as possible?
> research?
> feedback?
> time-travel?
Yeah
Plus, Banaza was made by the Mario Odyssey team, so I see it as much a sequel to that as the DKC games
Gonna be great!
Damn right
Hell, the ending of Raiders of the Lost Ark is scarier than most horror stories!
I choose to say I'm a Horror writer because Horror is so fluid
You can mesh it with any genre
I would argue, for example, that the comedy of Chris Morris can be classed as Horror
Especially Jam
So Horror to me is genre
Slap onto sci-fi, comedy, erotica, mystery
Sorted!
#HorrorWritersChat
Man, I'm itching to get a Switch 2 and Banaza
But money be tight
Plus I gotta replay Tropical Freeze first
Didn't think there'd be another DKC game that could rivel Diddy's Kong Quest for the best in the series!
Question Two. Other than HORROR, what else do you write? For example: other genres, non-fiction, blogs, charity newsletter, etc. How does being a horror writer help with your other writing? Quote post your answer and include the hashtag #HorrorWritersChat - No links or covers, save the self promo for the outro. Please like, share, and comment on other posts. We contain multitudes.
Q2: #HorrorWritersChat - Other than HORROR, what else do you write?

> non-fiction?
> blogs?
> letters?
How does being a horror writer help with your other writing?
