The morning sun peeks through my bedroom curtains. It basks me in its warm glow. The birds sing their cheerful birdsong. My alarm clock sings along. Curled under the comfort of my covers, I don't want to get up. I close my eyes, desperate to fall back into a dream, But the moonlight shines on me too. I have to get up even if it's hard. I have to get up even if I don't want to. I have to get up if I want the alarm clock to stop. I roll out of bed. My hair is a mess not even a brush can fix. My eyes have sunk into bags. I ran out of concealer the other day. My uniform is frayed at its edges. My white shoes are sullied in grime. I ask Mama and Papa if I look okay. They tell me I'm as cute as my everyday. Late for school, I rush out the door. I follow the same route as I always do, Humming the little birds' monotonous tune. The sun continues to shine, blinding me even through the clouds. I forgot to pack a parasol. For some reason, I can't say I mind. Though its heat makes me sweat, The beautiful blue calms my nerves. Though I cannot see it yet, I know the moon is hiding up there too. I run a hand through my messy hair. I rub my tired eyes. I fix my uniform. I breathe in and puff my chest as large as can be. I pick up my pace, dirtying my grey shoes against the concrete. There's something waiting for me todayβ€”I know there is. No matter how much it hurts, I can't let this sunshine fade. I'll find a reason to be happy I woke up today.
