Today's bug: playback in Davinci Resolve suddenly became awful, slow and with terrible audio, because my COMPUTER DISPLAY somehow got set to a 50Hz refresh rate!
Shout-outs to @dylanbrowne.bsky.social who jokingly suggested that as a cause, after we'd ruled out many much more likely scenarios.

I've been hard at work, updating the Torment Hexus trailer in preparation for participating in Steam Next Fest. Here's how it ends, what do you think?
And if you could drop me a wishlist on Steam, it'd really help out! store.steampowered.com/app/3238420/...

ANNOUNCEMENT! Text pointing toward my SHOCK CITY PUNKS book reads “1. REVIEW MY BOOK.” Text pointing toward a series of character sketches (Serenity Rose, Invader ZIM, and two Avatar characters) reads “Get a chance to win a sketch commission!”
Instructions on how to enter the sketch commission drawing. 1. Post a review of SHOCK CITY or SHOCK CITY PUNKS. 2. Send a link to PROOF@aaronalexovich.com. 3. You’ll be entered into a drawing for one of five free sketch commissions. Drawing July 27, 2026.
Genuine human reviews are the lifeblood of marketing (I am told, mostly by confused vampires). So let’s encourage some bloodflow! Post a review of either SHOCK CITY book and get a chance to win one of five sketch commission slots! #shockcity

Hey folks, I've finally gotten around to adding Demonschool to my Steam curator page, a game I had wanted to give a thumbs up to, but desperately wanted to see through to the end before doing so, as I was utterly captivated by it. Especially that soundtrack!

Selected 2025 image from the sci-fi graphic novel DRIVE at drivecomic.com, showing the human flagship "La Invencible" fighting the flagship of The Continuum of Makers, "The Spark of Thought". The battle takes place in orbit over Tierra and honestly looks pretty cool if you like ships going pew-pew-pew
Selected 2025 image from the sci-fi graphic novel DRIVE at drivecomic.com, showing the human flagship "La Invencible" in orbit over Tierra. Lookit that ship lookin' all cool with its cool-lookin' ship-bits
Selected 2025 image from the sci-fi graphic novel DRIVE at drivecomic.com, showing a fleet of freshly built Scythe-class interstellars in orbit over the Grasskan planet of Saseet. Oh also there's a teeny human ship off to the right, there, but it's super tiny next to these cool, big-ol'-chonkers
Selected 2025 image from the sci-fi graphic novel DRIVE at drivecomic.com. This page shows the human Emperor and his head admiral realizing they're about to get kebob'd (science term) on the claws of a 1,500-pound Tesskan
Bluesky pals: fun news!
I have a sci-fi graphic novel called DRIVE, & it's my favorite thing I've ever done! And today...a HUGO AWARD nomination has appeared! If you need a long, escapist read at the moment the whole thing is free to read at DriveComic.com
Please pass it along to sci-fi loving pals!
heyyy, i am looking for a character designer who specializes in character fashion. if interested please email your portfolio/link to website to contact (at) veritablejoystudios (dot) com 💗😁
However, I found a fun coincidence! One of the two bytes used to determine enemy drops is a counter of how many times that routine has been called. Since the routine is only called when killing an enemy or meeting Proto Man, it is essentially a kill counter. It is stored at address $DEAD.

A combat log, showing an enemy named "Ghost" running away three times because it took two ticks of bleed and one tick of doubt damage.
Today's bug: if an enemy has multiple damage-over-time statuses on them, and that damage causes them to decide to run away, then they will run away once for each tick of damage they get. #indiedev #indiegame
oh goodness that gun
There's one more Boys' Month surprise to share before I need to shift gears and work on something else for a bit. Come and get to know the intrepid and unshakeable Captain Rockford!
After an entirely normal amount of #Marathon, I decided to animate the Triage solo queue experience.
What I love most about this one is how the trailer starts playing, and you think "Oh, they've zoomed in on the player for dramatic impact." No, that's the actual gameplay resolution. Your character really is that big.
I think about this all the time
IZON feels like a long-lost experimental PS3 game, and weirdly in the same sphere as Pragmata.
A sassy, lost (and mystical) child explores ancient ruins with the help of an invulnerable war-construct. You control the big guy, either holding the child, or putting her down to free up both hands.
I keep posting Queen of Treasure Isle but it still remains bafflingly under 100, despite being one of the smartest, most charming metroidvanias around.
By Yume Nikki fan-animator Gobou, this one is FULL of alternate routes, sequence breaks & secrets. It'll take many NG+ loops to explore everything.
In a better timeline, Redline Crooks would have dozens of imitators. A mixture of old overhead arcade racers, car combat and roguelite mechanics. Spend health to boost through walls and opponents, and take out enemies to regain it back.
Great music and humor. Every car has their own fun gimmick.
To celebrate hitting 14,000 followers on Bluesky, I'm... gonna shake my tip jars on Ko-Fi and Paypal below, because work's been slow this month and I've got a house move coming up at the end of April...
But I'll be also posting a big thread of cool games with under 100 Steam reviews! LET'S GOOOOOO!
Eye Of the Commando asks 'What if Mercs and Contra were a turn-based dungeon crawl?'. The answer is 'Whoa, this works better than I could have expected'.
Not a roguelike; fully bepoke, hand-crafted mazes, silly dialogue and remarkably tactical combat with plenty of weaving between big round bullets
Pixel Art of Doctor Eggman in his modern design juggling the chaos emeralds. Behind him is the sonic 1 "try again" game over screen. the entire piece is done in a dramatic style and angle with a lot of different dither patterns and menace from eggman himself.
digital illustration of a woman with shadowy lupine features swiping at a guy so hard his jaw is being ripped off and his neck is breaking, spinning around to reveal an anguished expression towards his friend who is behind him, now covered in the blood of the first guy.
pixel art sprite of Samus in her zero suit reminiscent of a fighting game. she is a tall blonde woman in a blue and cyan bodysuit holding a sci-fi stun pistol.
monochrome pixel art portrait of Willem Dafoe. the entire piece is done at a massive resolution with only two colors, accomplishing multiple shades of grey through elaborate dithering patterns.
Happy #portfolioday!
I'm Aria, a seasoned pixel artist looking for longer-term contract work. I have experience as a portrait artist and sprite artist, and have experience working in a wide variety of styles and resolutions. I can also do non-pixel stuff.

Look, for my money the absolute game changer technologies right now are batteries and biosciences, not statistically modeling a mid conversation, but you do you.
Just noticed that En Garde is going SUPER cheap right now. 90% off. Cheapest its been by far.
Very fun little swashbuckling adventure with a focus on using stuff in the environment as much as stabbing people.
When done well, they become a little dialog between the developer and the player. Little snippets of commentary, maybe a nudge to explore what the game can do.
But yeah, if you let the experience be *driven* by the achievements, and turn them into a checklist of tasks, you have failed.
Totally normal day animating a jump in Verminsteel
Composing a shot for our 90s CD-ROM horror game, Forbidden Solitaire. 🎥

It’s inaccurate to say Mario is brave and Luigi is cowardly
Luigi is afraid of death, so he runs away from danger. Mario is afraid of living, so he runs towards death. Both brothers are cowards in their own way
Hyper Bun Buster: Rocket Hammer Action's demo is out now!
A top-down arcade bump action game about a bunny girl who uses her hammer to hit enemies into other enemies, now playable in your browser (and as a download!)

My brain is poisoned by the voice clips from Tales of Phantasia, I legitimately do this. "Ay-suh prite-uh!"
Amusing myself.
(I don't really plan on environments being big enough to support this kind of movement.)
