I don't think this makes it bad either. Afaik the original show flopped hard, so when dubbing they were told "just do anything if you think it'll make it more successful" - and they did just that by changing the genre entirely and it worked. Being faithful to the script wasn't actually their goal

don't call it "not really too bad". they got push back for the insane decision, so they "compromised" with a halfway point specifically so people would say it's "not really too bad" and get used to it. they want you to think it's not too bad so they could get closer and closer to blocking them fully

Though your definition of "trying to adapt it to the language" fits direct translations as well. Every translations tries to adapt text in a foreign language to another one, regardless of how much it ends up changing the meaning due to cultural differences

Sure, but the exact terminology is not really the point of the conversation, is it?

The point is that there's an accessible (in this case Deltarune and Mother 3 fan translations) version of the game out there, not whether it had cultural changes made to it or not

Terraria's russian translation is notoriously bad even after years of tweaks. The last update improved it, but you can still see many obvious translation errors that a single QA playthrough would prevent by inspecting the inventory for a bit. Yet devs said a professional team worked on this (2/3)

Showing Terraria there just proves Toby is right not to translate the game into languages he can't supervise :V

Tbh Mother 3 does have an english localisation, just an unofficial one. I've played it and it's pretty good

This approach would backfire if you actually want to search something ai-related, generative or not - like if you're a beginner game dev looking into how to make enemies follow the player and googling "[game engine] enemy ai tutorial"

Tried out the Zenith seed for the first time (combined with random spawnpoint and iamerror ones for good measure) and even though I'm playing on journey mode, I didn't know much about the seed other than it combines the other ones and adds some more stuff so it goes about as well as you'd expect

and then there's the angler with his biggest, smuggest smile out of all of them, and it fits the little bastard like him so much lmao
