Trump: Russia not taking over Ukraine is a concession President Trump said Thursday that Russia would be making a concession toward peace if it agrees not to take over Ukraine, as the U.S. president has struggled to negotiate even a limited ceasefire …

i.e. when business goes slack you train workers up because you have time to train them and not have to deal with having to hire people in occupations facing shortages when things pick up again. plus, the same upskilling could facilitate job transitions if those workers end up losing their jobs.

Seeks like a retention plan. Because it says "for workers" rather than "to" it could be a combination of payments to employers to keep workers in jobs, tied in with upskilling support.

it's like some kind of test of loyalty. see who's willing to damage their own credibility by validating trump's policies as they (and he) become increasingly insane.

Arendt is somehow always relevant, but Timothy Snyder's On Tyranny is a good update.

Also finished rereading Butler's Parable of the Sower, a dystopian novel set in 2025-2027 that feels a bit too close for confort.

Not a good debate question. What self-respecting leader would say anything other than igneous?

Seems more likely that we'd be made a territory like Puerto Rico or Guam. Limited representation in Congress, no electoral college votes.
