Can't say how delightful it is to teach in our Sustainability, Security & Resilience Masters & Certs Program. The students are often experienced pros from around the country hungry to learn more. They teach each other (& us instructors) so much. Ryan is a shining example www.ohio.edu/news/2025/10...

Thanks so much! Definitely hers and those was just two of many pieces at that installation. I was there for track II science diplomacy years ago but despite the serious convos, couldn't help but be captivated by the pieces and the place.
"Cross-sector partnerships to enhance disaster preparedness for older and vulnerable populations" The short version write-up of some really solid research from our partners at @agefriendlyoh.bsky.social and many friends www.frontiersin.org/journals/dis...
Lakeside art in Finland. Can't remember the location a few hours drive outside Helsinki. Hoping someone can remind me of the location and the artist.
We brought the Ohio University and Ohio State University Grey Green Alliance teams together at the @agefriendlyoh.bsky.social to talk research and practice, charting an exciting set of ways forward building on some dynamic work from student, faculty, staff & partner efforts!
More on extreme weather events especially flooding in Appalachia from my colleague Natalie Kruse at Ohio University's Voinovich School. Video available woub.org/2025/10/10/c...
Great new resource from our Grey Green Alliance partners at @agefriendlyoh.bsky.social. Practical toolkit for those living in & managing older adult affordable housing in face of increased extreme weather events. Lessons are from Columbus Ohio, not the coasts as typical csw.osu.edu/blog/2025/09...
Sharing the results of applied research takes many forms. Lucky to have skilled colleagues who create storymaps to help share insights visually as well. The peer-reviewed article version as well as lots of engagement with partners on the ground are behind it. storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/85c7...
Thrilled to see new book from buddy @stacydvandeveer.bsky.social available in full for free online from Cambridge UP. Paul Tobin, Matt Paterson & Stacy have assembled a diverse set of contributors/cases to examine Stability & Politicization in Climate Governance www.cambridge.org/core/books/s...
Lucky enough to meet Jane Goodall three times in very different settings. This was the first, hosting her at the Wilson Center in 2003 when she made the case to donors for meeting the diverse needs of communities sharing the same biodiverse ecosystem rather than a species specific approach.
On this International Day of Older Persons, working to capture synergies & reduce risks presented by twin challenges of an aging & warming world. Thrilled to be part of a Grey Green Alliance partnership between Ohio University's Voinovich School & Ohio State University's @agefriendlyoh.bsky.social
Great opportunity Oct 8th 5pm EST to learn more about our work on risk communication and extreme weather in Appalachia. The PI of our NOAA funded grant Dr. Natalie Kruse is presenting an applied, lessons learned for Science Cafe. Live option & recording via YouTube www.ohio.edu/news/2025/09...
Working with a great new group of students this fall! Having fun at a Teas of the World event, part of the launch of Ohio University's new School of International Studies & Languages. Interesting research in the works: aging & climate resilience, climate & mobility, and environmental peacebuilding.
More on extreme weather events and risk communication in Central Appalachia. Challenging new realities on many fronts not making it easier despite better understanding. Great team of researchers & students engaging with public health & emergency response partners www.ohio.edu/news/2025/09...
On this International Day of Peace, questions persist on peace and conflict connections to climate. Unfortunately the stakes will grow as more impacts felt and more responses (good, bad & ugly) play out. Ken Conca & I make case for wider lens than typical journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10....
The Coalition of Age-Friendly Communities of Ohio (CAFCO) has been a tremendous resource for sharing lessons learned on making our communities more livable for older adults & all residents. Thx @agefriendlyoh.bsky.social for leading the way!
Big news the state of Ohio officially becomes an Age-Friendly state. Joining 36 Age-Friendly Communities already here in Ohio. Opportunity for our Grey-Green Alliance focus on aging, sustainability & resilience as we have done in Athens, Columbus & Cleveland aging.ohio.gov/see-news-and...
Grisly but important reminder that environment & conflict links are often targeted assassinations of specific individuals apnews.com/article/envi...
Fantastic to see both the MS Environmental Studies and Voinovich Scholars together! Love learning together with students in both these programs! Terrific to have all the students in the Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Service at Ohio University connect. www.ohio.edu/news/2025/09...
Conducting research or working on the ground bringing together environment, climate, peace, conflict & security? Then you should be signed up for the ECCP biweekly. Content draw from all quarters, not just the usual suspects (and I say that as one of the usual suspects). eccp.substack.com
Definitely recommend Peter's The Heat and the Fury for the extended version of his reporting on climate, peace and security from @islandpress.bsky.social islandpress.org/books/heat-a...
Well done @schwartzstein.bsky.social for unpacking the many implications of climate change including changing boundaries and borders in potentially lethal ways. AND he included ways shared environmental interdependence can be utilized for environmental peacebuilding www.nytimes.com/2025/09/02/o...
Nice landing page for our Grey Green Alliance work on the dual trends of aging and warming. Looking to capture synergies in what makes communities more livable for older adults and more sustainable & climate resilient. Turns out lots of untapped opportunity. www.ohio.edu/voinovich-sc...
Lots were displaced. Most stayed in the South. Data on Hurricane Katrina making me think the hypothesized decisions to move to "climate havens" will likely stay close to home www.axios.com/local/new-or...
Latest installment of our MS Environmental Studies students conducting research that matters in the field. Sharing the good work done at the Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Service at Ohio University. www.ohio.edu/news/2025/08...

Congrats to Teslima Jallow for his successful defense of his MS Environmental Studies thesis on climate adaption and older adults in Banjul, The Gambia. Great contribution to our Grey Green Alliance research agenda and loads of helpful takeaways for practitioners.
Terrific to see @newsecuritybeat.bsky.social and @lauren-risi.bsky.social landing at @stimsoncenter.bsky.social after Wilson Center shutdown. Stimson great partner to us at ECSP for decades & regular contributor in environment, peacebuilding, climate & security space. www.stimson.org/2025/new-sec...
Kudos to my Ohio University Voinovich School colleague Dr. Natalie Kruse leading the team and Azmat Khan who led the write-up efforts while also completing an outstanding dissertation on climate change communication in Pakistan.
We found resilience by necessity yet so many interconnected challenges for these rural counties in Kentucky, Ohio, West Virginia, and Virginia where we deployed a survey & did focus groups. The NOAA funded work brought a diverse group across states and universities together.
