I had a coworker once who said it was their favorite part of the job because it was so relaxing. I *wish* I could feel the same way :P But I guess if you can learn to enjoy the process, then 3D will just be that much more enjoyable!

tysm! Lighting & atmosphere is one of my favorite parts of development... I can get kind of lost in the sauce with it, but I'm glad it comes through!
Just dumping a collection of old shots for #screenshotsaturday! I've been working on tutorialization lately, which doesn't produce the most exciting screenshots :P So these are all throwbacks. #jrpg #indiedev
Glad you enjoy it! :D I always find those details of implementation super interesting, so I like to put them out there when I can.
For all who are curious, here are the FX textures for the Aeromeda spell, as well as a peek at the content setup in Unity. Some of it is pretty quick and dirty (the stormcloud tex in the bg is just difference clouds) but overall I'm happy with the result! #jrpg #tacticsrpg #indiedev
It's been in some of the recent JRPGs & tactics RPGs I've played and I appreciated it. You know, you want to have the cool summon FX that blows your mind the first time, while acknowledging that it's no longer that cool to watch it the 50th time XD
Unit speech will probably get disabled for this particular battle in the final build - but I get a kick out of it too XD
The main cues for the art style are Final Fantasy Tactics and Xenogears. But there are graphical cues from many of my favorite PSX RPGs sprinkled in - Vagrant Story, Breath of Fire III & IV, Alundra, and Chrono Cross, just to name a few!
Was doing battle testing for this fight, and realizing I really like how this particular spell effect turned out. I always worry about making them too long, but I think this is ok, especially since I added the fastforward option. #jrpg #tacticsrpg #indiedev
I don't see much posting about VFX dev, so I thought it'd be neat to show the different textures that went into the Foxfire FX. The hitodama spiral is just a 9-cell flipbook made by doing twirl distortions. #jrpg #madewithunity #indiedev
I had always wanted to see a hedge maze level since I first played FFT. The biggest challenge was the dimensions of the hedges - tall enough to obstruct low-jumping movers, but not so tall that it ruined the camera. #tacticsrpg #jrpg #indiedev
No mechs, sadly - maybe next game :P But the style of story, themes, worldbuilding, presentation and characters draw from Xenogears quite a bit. I hope to give Xeno fans a lot to chew on in this game :D
Hi @andreadprojects.bsky.social! Thanks for hosting #turnbasedthursday! I'm Elly and I'm making Radiant Sword, a strategy RPG inspired by Final Fantasy Tactics & Xenogears.
When I play RPGs, I always get gunshy about using skills than spend money in battle. So, I gave the Noble's purse a limited cache of "free" money you can spend on Money Skill each battle. Its attack power goes down when you spend from it, though! #srpg #tacticsrpg #indiedev #madewithunity #lowpoly
We might never get a comfier JRPG starter town than Lahan Village.
Thanks very much for the kind words :D
Another new paradigm under development! This one, the Noble, fights with a purse and Money Skills. I'm pretty excited to explain how these work in future posts. :D #srpg #tacticsrpg #indiedev #lowpoly #madewithunity
I'll always have a place in my heart for those first four games. They weren't the most polished RPGs out there, but that particular creative direction was just completely unique at the time. That, and it had the Mac Anu town theme!
More Kitsune VFX polish. Foxfire is the one garden variety damage skill in their toolkit, but I wanted to make sure it looked cool & fun to use! #srpg #tacticsrpg #indiedev #lowpoly #madewithunity
Back at it this week and working on polish for some of the Kitsune ability VFX. #srpg #tacticsrpg #indiedev #madewithunity #lowpoly
Haven't been updating much recently, but progress on the game continues. I finally implemented one of the new paradigms: Kitsune! They've got all kinds of tricky utility, like this Puppeteer skill that lets you force enemies to attack each other. #tacticsrpg #srpg #indiedev #lowpoly
One rule I learned early in development was "if the design entails writing a bunch of dialogue, and you don't have ideas for how to make that dialogue interesting, then the design needs to change." Otherwise, the game is going to be filled with boring dialogue that sounds like AI! ><
The ones who should be apologizing are the fascists who have made this place dangerous for people like you and me. You made the right call & you've done nothing to apologize for, and anyone telling you otherwise seriously needs to get their head screwed on straight. Stay safe!
Every game published by GalaxyTrail has been pure quality, and Chrono Gear is no exception. Even if the game's premise is foreign territory for you, it's still worth playing for the delicious gameplay, art and overall polish. Don't sleep on it!
The Feral discipline lets you fight like a monster & use the abilities of monsters you've tamed. This even includes movement style (like flight or burrowing) and elemental affinity. The tamer here is mimicking the sandworm-like Doray. #srpg #tacticsrpg #indiedev #lowpoly #madewithunity
Yep! It takes up an ability slot, so you need to choose ahead of time which monsters will go to battle with you. They will also go berserk if their tamer dies, so it can be risky to overextend with them.
The Monster Tamer paradigm can tame and catch any monster in the game (except bosses). I tuned it to be an expensive but powerful build investment. I even added some specific ability synergies between monsters and humans. #tacticsrpg #srpg #lowpoly #indiedev #madewithunity
It's a great fit for the Switch and I'd love to do a port, but it depends on what happens with publishers. Right now, trying to get the game done on one platform as a solo dev is enough XD But if I can get external support for it, then absolutely!
The inspiration for the effects on this skill came from the lovely #ffhacktics community. Someone modded a skill that sequenced the Dragoon's jump animation into the Meteor spell fx, creating a human meteor. I thought "that is so cool" and decided to make something similar. #indiedev #tacticsrpg
