Everything that's happened in the last 5-6 years makes a lot more sense now
From Australia:
"New research has found public transport fares have not been a decisive factor in pushing people to shift from car to public transport."
"Better public transport access, coverage, reliability, and travel time have a greater impact than price in changing long-term commuting habits."
it’s a great day for transphobes to eat shit
I will be on @maddow.bsky.social’s show tonight to talk about InfoWars. Unlike the site’s current proprietor, I am not presently shirtless.
there is literally one proven policy to reduce traffic congestion long-term.
it’s congestion pricing. and Trump just spent a whole year trying to illegally scrap it in New York City
Portland's mayor actually said we'd be a "flyover city" if we don't use taxpayer money to renovate the Moda Center. Pretty gross!
Perhaps the part where repaving a street is a 30-year process which is perpetually in a state of emergency repairs before the federal funding from the token transit project can finally be parlayed in, is a problem and an obstacle to Good Outcomes.
GOD I HATE HIM
Both of those are projects worth mothballing completely, imo
i'm happy to see the onion take over infowars. i've been a big fan of the onion for quite a long time and it's given me plenty of laughs over the years. and as for infowars, i really disliked alex jones and disagreed with him on a whole lot of things. so to me, this whole situation is a win-win
lol suck it.
This piece begins with Amity Shlaes' most common and most deceitful trick -- citing the unemployment numbers in 1938, when the country fell into a recession because FDR had been persuaded to *ease off* the New Deal, as proof that the New Deal didn't work.
Pure hackery.
A Forbes article about a father who killed eight children, with an embedded prediction widget inviting people to speculate on whether "Congress will pass new gun safety legislation before 31st December 2026"
ghoulish
Yeah, it's a really interesting exercise in advanced route planning. This is the website that manages the Speedrun: www.transitruns.org/trimet/
and their Discord server is really helpful too
Attempted another MAX Speedrun today.
Ended with an unofficial time of 5:45:39 🎉🎉
And once again, Bus 33 is my arch-nemesis. We got delayed 6 minutes between Clackamas & Park Ave, which made us miss the first Orange Line
Seeing that apparently THOUSANDS of people showed up to pay their respects to a retired MAX train tells me that Oregonians are actively yearning for public transit, and politicians that throw their weight behind efforts to not just restore but massively expand service will be handsomely rewarded
In the same manifesto, Palantir's owners argued that we need a national military draft, that soft power is over, and that we were too hard on Germany and Japan after World War II. I don't think that company should be allowed to exist anymore.
To Brian Owendoff:
Please keep reminding people that you are a Portland DSA antagonist.
This is an extremely useful service for our member recruitment and public relations.
Please keep being your full self in full public view so never forget who you are and the class you represent in Portland!

Nothing pisses me off more than these disingenuous hacks going on stage and trying to guilt people when we have champions like Mamdani out here showing how you do popular politics.
That’s why they try so hard to suppress the left. They’re irrelevant if we have a competent left wing.
I am so fucking tired of waking up and reading about the latest massacre
I am so fucking sad that none of this surprises me anymore
YOU present the danger, so it's YOUR responsibility to not harm anyone. If that means you need to drive really slowly down this hypothetical street you imagine, then drive really slowly.
If you cannot handle that, then do not drive.
Zohran Mamdani on CBS — “Socialist politics can flourish anywhere, because there is only one majority in this country, and that is the working class. It’s time we have a politics that puts them at the heart of what we’re doing, not in the appendix.”
America’s Mayor can’t miss.
It's just crazy to see a genuine star in the Democratic Party talking about the *working class*. Not *working families* not *the middle class* not *ordinary Americans*.
The working class. Words two consecutive generations of Democrats were bullied into never speaking aloud.
a foundational concept in vision zero:
NASA and Mamdani are proving that Americans are desperate to see their money spent in ways they feel good about.
This, however, is not the same thing as simply spending the money on things we would feel good about but never know happened. People need to be able to see it.
I gotta know what your guesses were
