Yesterday, five-year-old Liam and his dad Adrian were released from Dilley detention center. I picked them up last night and escorted them back to Minnesota this morning.
Liam is now home. With his hat and his backpack.

only having read her more fantastical works, i didn't fully know what to expect going into this. i am blown away by her work here; emotionally resonant in ways only possible with each story of this chronicle interweaving with the other. great audiobook version also!

it's been a bit busy, but glad to have this reread during October (and a bit of November). while some things have clearly aged, Bradbury's lurid descriptions are still ample fuel for the mind's eye. also, the audiobook for this was very nice!

supremely heartfelt, this one showcases the impact that furry friends can have on us at all stages of life, how they can open us up to more than we thought ourselves capable of. a nice quick read to give yourself a smile

another book club selection! a very pessimistic depiction the world that, while engaging, leaves behind a hollow feeling. also, essentially only male characters have agency in this, so definitely showing its age

witty, evocative, and incredibly fulfilling, this book had me on the edge of my seat more than anything else recently. so good that it has revived an old habit of staying up too late on school nights to finish up a great book :)
seeing it this Saturday, i can't wait!
A screenshot from a Duolingo feed. It has a censored name followed by "Froze their streak 3 times this week!". The reaction option is a laughing-crying emoji saying "Ouch"

Rep. Steven Horsford to Greer: "So the trade representative hasn't spoken to the POTUS about a global reordering of trade, but yet he announced it on a tweet? WTF! Who is in charge? It looks like your boss just pulled the rug out from under you. There is no strategy ... is this market manipulation?"
