Our paper, Pangenomes suggest ecological-evolutionary responses to experimental soil warming, is published! Led by @malladapted.bsky.social, this study of 91 isolate genomes shows lineage specific trends climate adaptation. Thanks to the many reviewers who helped make this a stronger publication. ๐งช

My friendship love language is buying eachother tickets to shows, and then immediately sending the Venmo payment.
We will be recruiting a postdoc to work on a CIHR-funded project in microbiome stewardship. The aim is to understand how different definitions of microbial diversity influence how we interpret the "health" of microbiomes. Job ad will be forthcoming, but if this sounds interesting do get in touch!
Yes! My folder of unread papers is too empty.
I love this phase of my life where all my favorite bands from the 90's are going on tour again. Artists are thriving, in their 50s, well hydrated, and eating more vegetables. And I get to sing along in the crowd with all the cool dads ๐
New computer so new "To Read" folder where pdfs go to stay unopened for eternity.

After so many years, finally reunited with my beloved grad school Streptomyces cultures ๐ฅน. At home safe and sound in my -80C, probably not to leave again until I'm gone.

Thermal adaptation of soil microbial growth traits in response to chronic warming

Monday's lunch leaked. Roasted sweet potato sticky syrupy ooze pooling at the bottom of my computer bag. Nice.
A glass Mason jar with saturated soil sitting inside of a PVC column, read to be hooked up to an auto-sampler for greenhouse gas flux measurements.
Ahh it's 6P and you are justifying some wild assumptions to figure out the calculations you didn't consider... my brain had to ditch something important to extract the volume of a cylinder. But soils are flooded and on the column! Burp baby burp :)
Second! I like this one better than my fancier more expensive Eppendorf gradient
Spending down grant money as shopping therapy ๐ to deal with the stress of a deadline for a different grant is pretty great. Maybe not healthy? But effective.

Time to get this feed started. Life update: one year at this Assistant Prof gig, and brand new first time home buyer! Celebrated earlier this month with a quick trip to Asheville.
