Back in the field with the team in the Luberon under the Provençal sun ☀️
Careful digging, a bit of patience… and sometimes, a small discovery like this fossilized rodent jaw.
A small find, but another big clue from the past!

After the interview, dive deeper
This study by @BenjaminRaynaud, Phd Student of @carinaHoorn on Eocene pollen from Türkiye reveals new taxa, wet temperate climates, and common ecosystems from Europe to Central Asia. Proof that tiny fossils can tell vast stories.

Welcome aboard! 👋
We’re delighted to welcome Yohan Roussy, a Master 2 student joining us in the Luberon to work on clays and climate. A great opportunity to explore how sediments record past environmental and climatic changes.

The Eocene–Oligocene Transition in the Paratethys: boreal water ingression and its paleoceanographic implications Abstract. The Eocene–Oligocene Transition (EOT) represents a pivotal period in Earth's climatic history, marked by the onset of Antarctic glaciation and global cooling. While deep-sea records have ext...

He finds at least two episodes of extreme aridity during the late Eocene before the Eocene-Oligocene transition, which could have significantly impacted the endemic fauna of Balkanatolia.
It's the first paper providing clumped isotopic results from our isotopic line built at @cerege.bsky.social!
