When Crimea was annexed in 2014, everyone's mind was made.

Same in 2022. It's easy to stand against Russian imperialism when it hits you.

But Russia just needs a few months to make us believe that the situation is not black and white.

But it is. Putin is the enemy.
It is black and white.

Trump, Vance broke the fundamental rule of hospitality.

They assaulted and tried to humiliate their guest.

Zelenskyy walked into a trap, his hosts, and the other guests had their knives ready.

I might reiterate what some of you already said. One analogy comes into my mind. Putin drives a truck, thinks everyone should drive a truck. People who ride bikes or hatchbacks, or motorboats are just wrong.
And if he sees anyone in his circle even thinking about riding a horse. He will kill them.

Ok. You kept me thinking.
One thermodynamic aspect I could think of is that AI needs a lot of energy. Energy we don't have. We need to get it by converting low entropy energy sources into high entropy energy sources. So even if we use solar - low entropy - we will still make climate worse.

That's one side of it. Chase for endless growth will mess up the world one way or another. "AI boom" is just a symptom of it. It's still better than last big thing: blockchain-NFT-your-shit-and-win-life.
I strongly feel that transformer models are a dead end for AGI. But there's a lot more going on.

Don't rush it. Take care!

Hey. When you feel like it, care to elaborate ? I guess I'm more on the - ride the AI wave side - so I'm curious about less enthusiastic perspectives.

Now that I think of it, it's nice to see the ruble soften. But as experience has shown, Putler and his inner circle are extremely powerful and immune to pain.
They will go full North Korea with this kind of power even if they bankrupt their country.
They have the power to hold it.

Bronze ore makes sense if it's excavated/fossil, after some massive bronze age apocalypse. 🤔

I got some war related uncensored gore content once that appeared persistently for few hours until I banned the user.
So it happens.

I have a theory that we might still be enjoying the honey moon phase, because certain someone's didn't join Bluesky yet in full force.

Also not an economist, but ruble to USD exchange rate is dropping massively today. From what I know they kept the rate artificially stable by pumping money, is it another symptom they are running dry ?

Bluesky's account count is consistently growing!

Run by a small team and backed by a medium-sized tech company, Bluesky will eventually need to monetize. One of its charms is the lack of sponsored content— going for profit might be its biggest test.
Best of luck! 🍀

How are AI and steam engines alike? 🚂🤖

There are two arguments about LLMs. One is that it was all hype. The other says it wasn't, but the research has hit a brick wall.

Steam engines faced skepticism, contending with good old horsepower.
They peaked and stagnated as well.

The correct response to those saying “Ukraine will start WWIII” is not “you are dumb, shut up”. It is: “I hear you. Nuclear risk is about life and death. Talking about it openly goes to the heart of democracy. But here is what might be missing from your perspective”.

Key points about NATO enlargement:

1. No country has ever been forced to join NATO

2. All new members must first apply and meet rigorous standards

3. The vast majority of new members since 1991 have joined due to fear of Russian aggression

4. NATO has never attacked Russia
