I say this as a Nordie: only a fellow Nordie could have delivered this line without a hint of irony. While we went through hell up here, I think we were largely shielded from the depth of repression the south experienced for the best part of the last century. RTE is still paying off homophobes FFS!

I need you to understand that if you heard a song you liked in the 80s, you couldn’t Shazam it. You couldn’t Google the lyrics. You had to sing it to the guy at Tower Records.

Researching why pubs in Ireland often have an undertaker next door, and I didn't know that it's because of an 1846 law that corpses had to be brought to the local pub and kept there until an enquiry into the death could be made. Repealed in the 1960s, but business is business.

This is Winston Churchill visiting the White House during World War II.
Funny how he isn’t wearing a suit either. Almost like he was a wartime leader defending his country from being slaughtered and wiped out by an authoritarian aggressor.
President Zelenskyy has been one of the greatest leaders of our time, guiding Ukraine through the darkest period of its recent history, rising up to Russia’s unwarranted aggression, being an inspiration to the Ukrainian people and ensuring that Ukraine’s voice is heard on the world stage.

This photo depicts the remains of the outer planking and inner framing timbers from a shipwreck found at Køge Harbour in Denmark. The wooden trenails that kept the structure assembled can also be seen, and in the background the keelson is in situ. This wreck was excavated by the Museum of Southeast Denmark, in 2021. The trees used to build it were felled in southern Norway, in the winter of 1761-62 (Dendro.dk report 2023:59).
