Nope on those "Autism is overdiagnosed!!!" headlines. Autism is UNDERdiagnosed, and undiagnosed autistic people's autistic traits and associated health and care needs are denied, leading to avoidable suffering and unfairly reduced quality of life.

This guy is a fantastic illustration that AI = mediocre white male talent stimulator and laziness enabler. He's not really critiquing other academics, he's just telling on himself and the quality and originality of his scholarship.
Is the AI a robot? How is it conducting an ethnography and which hard to reach population is it reaching? I have so many questions because he’s full of shit, but he may also be making up research.
"'If you can increase the diversity of the scientific workforce, there’s some evidence that you can increase the trust in scientists,' Druckman explained... [diversity] encompassing not just race and gender but also rurality, religiosity, and class background."

But the baby-crushing machine makes the smoothest peanut butter! Don’t you like peanut butter? Why are you so anti-peanut butter? Peanut butter is used to keep children alive in famine regions—why do you want children to die? (Besides the ones in the baby-crushing machine, of course…)

people punish autistics for being too blunt > autistic people learn and incorporate scripts to avoid punishment > large language models use the same scripts > people get suspicious of the script > people accuse autistics of being AI > people say “Don’t do this,” without offering solutions 🙃

Front cover of a book titled "Neurodiversity: A Very Short Introduction" by Robert Chapman and Sue Fletcher-Watson. The cover features an abstract, painterly background with horizontal bands of earthy orange, tan, and muted green-grey, separated by a textured white line across the middle. The text is clean, white, and centered.
We are currently reading the very short but seriously fabulous introduction to neurodiversity from @drrobertchapman.bsky.social and @suereviews.bsky.social! This is such a well-written academic intro to neurodiversity studies. An authoritative and essential read. Highly recommended it to everyone!
Science is a cumulative and collaborative process that requires human connection and interaction. I find it interesting that the 'lone genius' idea still gets romanticised in academia.
Read @emilynordmann.bsky.social and Jill RD MacKay scoping review for lecture capture using Universal Design for Learning! Lecture capture is necessary but needs to be scaffolded to support learning! If you have not read it, highly recommend! doi.org/10.1016/j.co...

Three wonderful books about sexuality and relationships have come out in the last few months, and I wanted to share them here:
1. You Could Be Having Better Sex - Dr. Nicole McNichols
2. Bonded by Evolution - Dr. Paul Eastwick (note: title is misleading)
3. The Intimate Animal - Dr. Justin Garcia
A screenshot of a Hollywood Reporter politics news article. The headline reads, "Dave Chappelle Knocks Republican Party for “Weaponized” Transgender Jokes: “That’s Not What I Was Doing”" The subheadline states, "After being called out for transphobic jokes, the superstar comedian told NPR that Lauren Boebert and other Republicans are politicizing his humor." Below the text is a photo of Chappelle in a black tuxedo speaking at a podium, with a caption noting he is accepting the President's Award at the 2025 NAACP Image Awards.
No, that's exactly what Chappelle was doing and it's why trans people criticized him for doing it.
Aww hell yeah this is why I am on social media, to experience awe like this.
"The rise of extreme wealth is one of the clearest signs of this imbalance. In 1987, billionaires held wealth equal to 3% of global GDP. Today this tiny elite, just 0.0001% of the world population, owns the equivalent of *16%* of world GDP in wealth."
Brief fun survey from Jessica, Andrew & myself:
If you are a faculty member, research scientist, postdoc, or senior Ph.D. student in any area of science, please take five minutes and fill it out. We’ll share the results widely along with some reflections.

“The researchers found that 40% of workers had encountered workslop within a month, and then spent an average of 3.4 hours a month dealing with it – which the study estimates adds up to $8.1m in lost productivity for a 10,000-person organization.”

I learnt a heck of a lot working on this piece, now out in American Psychologist. Big thanks to all collaborators particularly the mentorship of @omidvebrahimi.bsky.social and @ludvigdb.bsky.social. And of course the amazing resource that is the UKHLS @usociety.bsky.social
The first few articles in this collection are now published, including ours. I look forward to reading all. Our piece is not open access because of the ridiculous fees but the preprint linked at the end of the quoted thread (will link again below) is the accepted version of our commentary.
