Yesterday morning he was touting Brexit as the reason the UK had a 10% tariff.... and by end-of-day the EU was also on...10%.
While electricity prices are artificially inflated by the market price mechanism and surcharges, it's going to be tough. Shift the surcharges to gas & buy green electricity at cost plus rates & suddenly heat pumps will become much cheaper to run than gas.
The upfront costs of heat pumps today are high, says Esther Harris from @thecccuk.bsky.social , but they're likely at their peak and will in the future. We need to explain to consumers that there is a pathway to cheaper kit, and cheaper bills. That's key to accelerating the roll-out...

That was only ever a scam by the gas producers to allow govts to drag their feet over an outright ban.
Since electricity is currently 4 times the price of gas for most consumers, that extra efficiency is not enough in a poorly insulated house where you either have to run the heat pump hot (reducing efficiency) or put in more capacity.
The US is utter chaos. Complete and utter chaos, for at least another four years and probably long into the future. Any British government working in the national interest will be investigating how to quickly reduce our exposure to it.
How many times, in how many countries, do we have to go through the same dynamic, with the same result.
