Nice! Both of your Goldfinches are American Goldfinch, by the way :)

It’s true! I was there :) really excited about this research finally being published!
Saw this awesome Speckled Tanager in Costa Rica recently. I’d seen them before in captivity, but seeing a wild bird fly in so close just to chow down on some bananas was a much cooler experience.
A brown, gray-headed owl with bright yellow eyes sits on the top of a barren tree, with snow falling around it.
I guess Bluesky is the new hotness now. I didn’t really use that blue bird themed app anyway, but maybe I’ll start trying to keep with this one more often. Anyway, here’s a Northern Hawk Owl photo I took :)
Other enjoyable ideas include “Uproarious”, “Clamorous”, “Clangorous”, “Tumultuous”, and “Boisterous”.
A photograph of a Montezuma Oropendola, a Blackbird-like bird with a rich brown back, bright yellow tail, and orange-tipped bill. It is perched on a branch covered in green orchid leaves and moss.
Figured I’d put in my vote for a new bird name now that the AOS has decided to remove eponyms from English bird names. Montezuma Oropendola has always been fun to say, but I think this will give us a chance to acknowledge their crazy songs and keep a fun name with “Cacophonous Oropendola”!
I’m sure it will take some getting used to, but I’m all for removing the eponyms. I think the only one I’ll truly miss is Montezuma Oropendola— I hope they come up with a new name that’s just as fun to say.
Something blue! Brown-hooded Gull in Patagonia :) 🪶
Similarly, I get lots of emails for my Wildlife photography account on Instagram about promoting clothing, watches, hiking gear, etc. I have never posted a single photo of myself on that account, it’s essentially all wildlife and landscapes.
For #WorldShorebirdsDay I wanted to share some Sanderlings! These birds live on coastlines all around the world and are an icon of tidal shorelines. They also migrate incredible distances: some birds fly from the southern tip of South America up to northern Canada and back each year! #addBirder
A stocky, gull-like bird with rich brown feathers stands on a flat area with very low brown grass. It’s wings are fully outstretched and its face is towards the camera, beak open, as if it is yelling.
Chilean Skua! One of many birds from southern Chile that I miss daily.
