Just got word from my college roommate - who is the state archivist for the state of South Dakota - that due to the DOGE shutdowns of IMLS, they can no longer fund InterLibrary Loan in SD.

This means exchange between libraries, ability to get books delivered across the system, is gone as of 4/30.

Our database of terminated grants is powered first by PIs who send us information about their grants. If your grant was terminated--or if you received a stop work order of some sort--let us know!

We just got the news of our IMLS grant being terminated for our museum. Elon is systematically targeting our educational facilities, and we must continue to organize if we are to protect our museums and libraries (among everything else).

While Minnesota has been leaps and bounds ahead of other states in tying their libraries to state funding, I am immensely worried about the cost of SELCO's system migration and the in-state library loan system in light of IMLS grant withdrawals.

We've already had both an NEH & IMLS grant canceled. I don't necessarily like getting too much into the weeds about work, but sharing to let people know that this stuff is actually happening. I am used to not receiving great support because I work for a public institution. I think we need to discuss

Cognitive dissonance is the humanities being at the same time both a useless waste of time and an imminent threat to the government.

Reupping this one. For all of us sad about grant terminations, the larger issue is these colleagues ARE the humanities infrastructure in the U.S., stewards of fields, unsung heroes. Grateful for your feedback, expertise, and service. And so sad this is happening to you. You deserved so much better.

Maine State Library lays off 13 workers, will restructure after losing federal funds The library last received funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services on March 24 and has not gotten any updates on when — or whether — payments may resume.

The Maine State Library laid off 13 staff members Wednesday — nearly one-third of its staff — and announced that it would close for two weeks to restructure its operations after the Trump administration indefinitely suspended certain federal funds.

The image shows the cover of the Internet Archive's Vanishing Culture report. On the left, the words "Vanishing Culture" are prominently displayed in bold, dark font against a neutral background. To the right, a set of cultural artifacts including a VHS tape, an open book, a film reel, a vinyl record, and a web link icon appear to disintegrate into pixels, symbolizing the disappearance of analog and digital media. Below these icons is a pixelated computer hand cursor pointing to the word "SAVE," emphasizing the need for preservation. The Internet Archive's logo is placed in the bottom-right corner.

A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die.

Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.

As I said the other day, there are two kinds of people: those who've seen a 130 year old piece of equipment in some machine shop that is the only thing that can make a widget that upholds a global manufacturing network, and those who think manufacturing supply chains are easy/just happen

BREAKING — Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) staffers who were put on admin leave on Monday just got letters letting them know they’re a part of a Reduction in Force (RIF) and that their job will be “abolished” effective May 4th in accordance with Trump’s EO, per copy reviewed by me.

Incidentally, since almost all the physical books from major publishers in the US are printed in China, that probably just increased the price by 50%, which massively lowers sales and means publishers will do much smaller print runs.

This is such a fucking shame.

So many people worked so hard to make NaNoWriMo what it was, and it was all squandered to prop up a plagiarism machine, truly betraying everything NaNo represented: the limitless creativity of normal people.
