Union groups urge collective bargaining for all University employees - Cville Right Now
A bill awaiting Gov. Spanberger's signature does not currently include service employees.
At our colleges and universities, faculty & staff working conditions are students’ learning conditions. They deserve a seat at the table - and the way we achieve that is through collective bargaining. cvillerightnow.com/news/208802-...

you’re exactly right. I’m simply pointing to who the decision makers are: Spanberger, and the VA state legislature.

Grad students and professors are left out of collective bargaining bill unless Spanberger steps in
Governor Abigail Spanberger is considering a bill that would expand collective bargaining for some government employees but deny it to others.
Ok. We faculty and grads lost the @vademocrats.bsky.social vote on Collective Bargaining, but their error (paid for by Univ Presidents) can be remedied by Gov. @abigailspanberger.com. Time to make more phone calls! @aaup.org @aaupmason.bsky.social @ucwva.bsky.social

@aaup.org is one of many organizations looking to expand collective bargaining rights for all. Private sector workers are governed by Federal law. As part of Federalism, state workers are governed more so by state law. So many conservative states - don’t honor cb rights.

And knowing the racist past of denying collective bargaining as a white supremacist move…
You know we in the south.
Just don’t tell me you are FOR justice and equity then deny people their labor rights. Can’t have it both ways.
And using cost as your excuse?!
We all know there’s money.

Early in adulthood, I was struck by a Dem Party leadership’s unwillingness to fight for Black peoples’ right to vote in FL or OH, even at the expense of the presidency. Virginia Dems debating whether to expand labor union power while Trump races to institutionalize authoritarian power seems similar.

University of Virginia’s Board Names a New President
“I think the faculty senate has made clear that anybody who’s appointed before Spanberger takes office is not going to get a warm welcome,” said Dr. Heinecke, of UVA AAUP, who noted that searches to replace university presidents normally take a year or more.

Creating a military conflict with Venezuela gives this administration a legal "hook" to invoke the Alien Enemies Act. In other words, the foreign war is being manufactured in order to facilitate court deference for its domestic mass deportation policy. It's a Stephen Miller Special.

Ideology without politics is intellectual masturbation. Politics without ideology makes you accept material concessions that undermine your power to get more. Ideology becomes reactionary at the point in which it denies scientific evaluation, or suppresses the impetus for it.

"In New York City, Zohran Mamdani’s inspiring victory and massive turnout underscored that standing up for tenants, workers, and the quality of life isn’t just good policy—it’s good politics" - @rweingarten.bsky.social

The last month of the anti-Mamdani campaign was an absolutely shameful undertaking, an attempt to rip the city and Democratic coalition apart and I'm very happy to see it failed.

Any thing is possible. But I feel highly skeptical about the legitimacy of the “anti-ICE” writing on the bullet casing. We are to believe someone who was against ICE, of their own volition, shot solely immigrant detainees, and wrote, “anti-ICE” - a phrase I’ve never heard said? Who benefits?

Being good at critique or analysis and being good at building/ organizing/ problem solving are two distinct skill sets and it's rare someone has both and the idea that they're complimentary and one follows the other is probably the largest epistemological error of the left

Commentary: Treat child care for what it is: economic infrastructure
Just like roads, broadband and housing, child care is foundational to a functioning modern economy.
Absolutely. Childcare is infrastructure.
Quality childcare is more than daycare, rather preparing our children with the social and emotional skills to build resilience.
That's how children can better cope with adverse childhood experiences and trauma.

play detective. Yes, it will serve us to not be fooled. Yes center forces will try to confuse us. But that’s not the main thing we need to pay attention to. Cory Booker fights for fake, we share interest in some short term outcomes, not long term ones. Newsom -same formulation in regard to outcomes…

Left Organizers will be served by distinguishing b/w a political force / politician willing to fight versus one who shares our long term outcome goals and distinguish further if they share our short term goals. Remove Trump is an example of short term. SPECIFICALLY to identify our interests. Not to
