On the one hand, it bums me out that so many people can relate to the core of this story, but on the other hand I'm glad we're not alone in this! 😅 I hope House Hunters can be a cathartic read... Thank you again, as always, for everything you've done to get me this far!!

So stoked to share this with the world! HOUSE HUNTERS resonated with me—and all the editors who saw the project—because we've all suffered the struggle of finding a place to live. Kelly is unbelievably talented, and HH is both dark AND funny with vibrant, energetic art that'll suck you in! 🥊💥

A purple and teal illustration of a woman in a warped stadium. She's looking up at a screenshot of the Publishers Marketplace announcement for House Hunters.

The announcement reads: "Kelly Bull's House Hunters series, the author's debut, about a woman who must fight her neighbors in a series of deadly battles in lieu of paying rent, pitched as Squid Game meets Scott Pilgrim, to Tess Banta at 23rd Street, in a good deal, in a pre-empt, in a three-book deal, by Jane Chun at Transatlantic Literacy Agency (world)."

Hello!! 🥳 I'm very excited to introduce HOUSE HUNTERS, a graphic novel that's been simmering in my head for almost a decade.

Thank you so much to @janechunlit.bsky.social for being this story's #1 supporter, and to Tess for finding it a home at 23rd Street. I can't wait to share this with you all!

Since it's the start of a new year and I'm sure many writers have set finishing books and querying as a New Year's resolution, I wanted to say that I'm open to queries! Looking for middle grade, YA, and adult fiction, select nonfiction, and graphic novels. #amwriting #amquerying

Comic cover titled “Silver & Iron” in all caps, “part one”. The title takes up the entire cover and is superimposed over a single figure standing in the centre of the page, a young but strong-looking man with light skin, visible chest and arm hair, and a beard which tapers into points at his chin and his cheeks. His hair is jaw-length and the top half is tied back, though some strands have come undone. He has upturned eyes and a moderately long nose with a slight bend in the bridge. A scar runs through his left eye leaving the pupil permanently dilated, making it appear darker than his right eye. He looks at the viewer with a sense of determination and grit, wiping blood off his chin; more blood stains his shirt, untucked and half-unbuttoned to expose part of his chest, and there are more traces of blood on his left hand which holds a crudely-hewn dagger.

A four panel comic about an upcoming event called Drawn Together: A comic artist' roundtable. We are introduced to two comic creators sitting at a stage, Kelly and Ariel. An audience member asks, "what's it like making comics for print?" Kelly and Ariel exchange a concerned glance. They are both reflecting on the extreme highs and lows they experience while making comics, as expressed by the flashes of indistinct figures in the background. Some figures complain about sore wrists and backs, others state that "Michelangelo wishes he had my talents". There are figures refusing to do work, underestimating their workload, grinding their teeth in envy while admiring other creators' comics, and giving into despair. Kelly turns back to the audience, "do you have an hour?" she asks. Ariel also warns the audience to "write this down." The final panel shows Kelly and Ariel cheerfully gesturing to the event title, and showcasing the date for the event, September 16.

I think it should be normalised for webcomic creators to take several months hiatus' to reboot, recoup, and relax before jumping back into the grind.
Take that break

pulled an old harddrive out of storage to access some comic files from ~2011 and each time I copy files out of it, it starts crackling like a geiger counter.....

Come watch me fight @arielries.bsky.social over comic opinions, live on stage in September!

This is not a joke. Consider this.

Its 150 gigs for images and all.

That's literally less than one AAA game.

Everyone's always giving great advice to ppl looking to start their first webcomic but mine is dire: if you give your characters complex/detailed clothing/accessories please understand you will have to draw all of that, over and over and over again, on a consistent schedule, for months or years lol🧍

The cover for the graphic novel Strange Bedfellows

The cover for the graphic novel Strange Bedfellows

In the not-too-distant future, most of humanity resides on its last-ditch effort at Meridian, a remote alien planet where you’re more likely to be born superhuman than left-handed.

None of that is important to Oberon Afolayan. Since his mildly public breakdown, his whole life seems to be spiraling out of control—from dropping out of university to breaking up with his boyfriend, it seems like only a karmic inevitability when he wakes up one day with the ability to conjure his dreams in the real world.

Oberon’s newfound powers come with a facsimile of his high school crush, Kon, who mysteriously dropped off the face of the planet almost three years ago and who is a little more infuriating (if not also infuriatingly hot) than Oberon remembers.

Kon makes it his mission to turn Oberon’s life around, and while they struggle to get a handle on his powers and his disastrous personal life (not to mention the appearance of strange nightmare creatures), it turns out this dream version of Kon has secrets of his own—dangerous ones.

Oberon might have more on his plate than he originally thought, but is giving up his dreams—even the one he might have accidentally fallen in love with—the only way to find happiness in reality?
