Congrats to everyone who fell for this just because Anthropic said it lol

Ultimately Silicon Valley’s fatal flaw is that it has a glut of losers in a loser echo chamber and they have no idea why nobody else thinks their ideas are good and fun
Catholic hospitals are bad and they became entrenched here and persist here because the US has chosen not to make healthcare the responsibility of the secular state because it's expensive and we hate our own people.
In California, per our university archives, brutalism was a response to the building takeover in Berkeley, and buildings in the 70s were designed so students could not “capture” campus buildings during protests.
Been watching the Integrity/Artemis II splashdown and wanted to recommend the Lady Astronaut book series by @maryrobinettekowal.com - fantastic read if you like space and especially women in space.
Our PhD student Kennedy Orwa, who studies applications of AI to health care, was hastily deported today to Kenya along with his 13-year-old son without opportunity to speak to legal counsel.
King 5 reports that he held a valid visa that was rescinded without explanation.
And yet how many colleges and universities are giving him money?
I’m looking forward to watching that one when recordings are released (missed it because of a conflict)
Videos of explosions have fueled misunderstanding and misinformation in the conflict with Iran, with munition types incorrectly identified amongst claims of “mystery” weapons. What can types of explosions really tell us? Read @easybakeovensz.bsky.social‘s latest: www.bellingcat.com/resources/20...
I didn't think that Duke loss could possibly get any sweeter and then I realized Stephen Miller probably had a sad viewing party in the White House and, ah, yeah, that did it
"Extremist, white supremacist curricula is the product of a decades-long crusade to deregulate home- and private-school education, the fruits of which are visible in such phenomena as QAnon, COVID denialism, the Capitol riots, and the plagiarized 1776 Commission Report."
Trufax: Walking alone in my small hometown in Appalachia worries me more than doing so in northern VA during the DC Sniper era.
A cosplay cowboy on Instagram with a weak chin poorly hidden by his beard, wearing a pistol on his chest rug and staring off into the disgance The caption reads: Hard to explain that driving 20 miles into town scares me more than riding 50 alone into the wilderness
The idea that (white) American farmers and ranchers are the "true volk" while cities are a sore on the body politic, filled with greedy merchants and mobs of laborers, is the foundational, racist blood-and-soil myth of America that still pervades all of society including mainstream media.
So glad to see this!
Ezra Klein: I'm Ezra Klein, and today I'm joined by one of the foremost intellectual theorists of Trumpism. He is an associate editor at the Rancho Cucamonga Review of Ideas and a fellow at the Schlafly Institute of Punitive Economics.
[a baked potato in a top hat]: Thanks for having me, Ezra.
Four portraits of Minnesota residents inside and outside their homes. From left to right: A woman in a hijab, an older woman wearing a red whistle, an elderly couple in winter coats standing in the snow, and a woman wearing a buttoned-up cardigan and dark blue jeans.
The news has moved on, but ICE is still in Minneapolis.
My neighbors are still patrolling streets, driving strangers to work, and providing aid. As a photojournalist at @propublica.org, I wanted to know: What do they look like in their daily lives?
So I picked up my camera 👇
There isn't a group more obviously, bluntly political than librarians and archivists. They rule so hard
The World Cup in the USA is going to be far more unsafe for visitors than the 1936 Olympics were.
Will be there too with family
57 of my fellow students were arrested, academically disciplined, and barred from campus 2 weeks before finals.
And then the visas of some of those students were quietly revoked.
And then the DEI office was killed.
And then we watched our mentors’ grants evaporate over “woke”.
The US government collected over $1 billion in immigration fees then refused to process the applications. No denials. No refunds. Just silence. This is the largest fee fraud in the history of the American immigration system. Here's what's happening. 🧵
Amazing news here
And yet how many American universities are dropping language programs left and right?
Among other problems with this stupid plan, ICE seems to be mostly male and mostly white, devoted to persecuting non-white immigrants, while TSA ... is not. ICE has tons of money, TSA workers have missed paychecks.
The idea that they're going to work together without friction seems far fetched.
Statistical Rethinking 2026 is done: 20 new lectures emphasizing logical and critical statistical workflow, from basics of probability theory to causal inference to reliable computation to sensitivity. It's all free, made just for you. Lecture list and links: github.com/rmcelreath/s...
Controversial but - students *perceive* they have been failed when what has happened is they have failed to understand information retrieval is a skill requiring effort. I don't believe a zero friction experience is realistic or desirable in learning, actually.
What the hell did I just read?
"In a world on fire, how can we concede so much power to an exploitative technology that produces questionable results, operates in opaque ways, deepens social precarity and fuels the planetary emergency?"
Scholarly publishers - including nonprofit ones - are failing us. 📚

My newsletter today is about @katmabu.bsky.social's campaign.
Democrats keep asking how to reach voters who've given up on the party. Kat Abughazaleh spent a year trying to answer that question. She lost, but the answer is still right. www.readtpa.com/p/what-if-we...
Prickett’s Fort in Fairmont, WV, the Creative Arts Center at WVU, and what were then the Buhl science center, the Phipps conservatory, and the Carnegie museum in Pittsburgh.
