I think it's more fair to say that grifty cults (which everything in this article is) utilize otherwise healthy/effective therapy methods to create camaraderie and in-groups common in cults. This is less a similarity of therapy to cults, then cults stealing effective methods to abuse/control people.
I more meant, this is so close to healthy group therapy. A big part of group therapy, opening up to those around you and feeling understood and seen.
It just doesn't usually involve having the crap kicked out of you first.
