Of all the RPGs, I think Origins and Valhalla handled their main stories the best. Having a main quest to follow allowed meaningful things to happen, characters to evolve and the pay offs to have impact.
The non-linearity really hurts this series.

The non-linearity really hurts the new AC games but this one might be the worst of them all in terms of writing. It doesn't help the Modern Day is not only not playable, but it's relegated to documents and some random simulation rifts.

The side quests too, they're not done well. Some random guy will tell you to just kill more people and you accept because... They're bad? There's no story behind them most of the time. There's not even confession rooms when you kill a target.

I'm playing #AssassinsCreed Shadows. It's a fun sandbox to go kill targets in, and playing with Naoe is really fun, but the writing sucks soooo much.
The main story is divided into multiple targets you can do at any time which just makes everything feel bland, everything feels like a side quest.
