I mean, if nothing else it definitely shows people roughly my age are in powerful enough positions to get this stuff included

Counterpoint: no, it isn’t. Leo is in line with the traditional teaching of the church. Trump is a warmonger, corrupt, delights in humiliating others, and is blasphemous on a level that wouldn’t even occur to most people.

This isn’t hard.

It’s ok, because even if they did go down that road they would find a young actor with charisma to work alongside Stewart and not the blandest person known to humanity

The last time I watched farpoint, and a few other Season 1 episodes, there is definitely a reading that Wesley is Picard’s son. Crusher jumps in with him being Jack’s son a bit too quickly at one point

No-one has an inalienable right to drive a car on a public road, you need training, a license and have to follow specific rules to do this safely. Do I have the right to jump into a plane and just take off for a jolly? Of course not and if I did I'd be in a lot of bother

Same here, I think why I become more authoritarian with motoring rules is because these are rules based around operating a potentially dangerous piece of equipment which are there to reduce the risks for both the operator and people around them.

If you see this, quote with a pic of you in glasses.

My actual glasses as well, need them for distance and they Re those ones that change in sunlight so you look like an idiot wearing sunglasses indoors for a few minutes whenever you've been outside.

Time for a British version about the efforts to make the perfect milk chocolate...could call it Galaxy Quest.

I wonder if they’ll have a scene where someone calls him a madman for giving his chocolate a vomit aftertaste?

I’ve been eyeing one up as well.

I mean, he was happy I guess but when everyone else has moved on with their lives he seemed stuck where he was once he left uni.

I actually remember meeting an old school friend who I considered having a fairly sweet life when we were in our 20s (low stress job with enough to rent a place and afford treats) but the fact that he was the same nearly 20 years on was more than a bit sad.

I’m all for people not wanting to do the traditional 9-5 type job and even not chasing promotion or money, but there is a difference between that and stagnation.

I saw someone saying “we didn’t need smartphones, we had snake on a Nokia 3310” and aside for being nostalgic to a less functional piece of tech it also makes me feel ancient which shouldn’t be allowed

Nothing says “people in charge of programming are my age” like this. And it’s all the insufferable Indy music snobs from the late 90s. Oooh Sean rider might swear before the watershed

And when the more leftist parties started pulling together it caused a panic because of the final runoff was with an actual alternative they were screwed. Labour are trying roughly the same with “only we can stop reform” basically having reform as the next biggest party is an ideal situation

It’s more using the far right as a threat to allow a fairly unpopular, corporate captured party to stay in, the French system with its run off has basically relied on someone like the FN being the alternative, the majority don’t like the govt but don’t want something worse

Always has issues as the centre right won’t actually solve the structural problems but they also tend to legitimise far right views to “win over those voters” and they are rabidly aggressive towards any left wing alternative. End result is usually the far right eventually getting in

I’m happy that Orban is out and would call this a good start, but the centre right have a nasty habit of keeping an outright fascist in the back pocket to scare leftists into voting for “the lesser of two evils” see France for the past 20 years as an example.

I like to think somewhere they had a meeting where they said “ok, we have the moon buggy things, the shuttles and throw in the space station, what else can we do?” “TRUK!”

Would I put it past china to occasionally put out some press release that they’ve made an AI that can write sonnets and pleasure your wife just so the west bankrupts itself? No, but if I can work that out those in charge should be able to as well

1 week ago 0 0 0 0

That’s one of their main pushes for generative AI, despite it being an expensive boondoggle with no clear use, if we don’t push hard someone else will develop a superior expensive boondoggle with no clear use and then they’ll have it and we won’t.

I seem to remember a good few of the shuttle’s shortcomings were because the USAF asked for certain capabilities that they never used. And the crossovers between military and civilian aviation go way back as well. I’d love for everything to be from clean sources but it isn’t realistic.

And yeah, I’d love it if all the military spending was spent on civilian science but it wouldn’t be, it would go on tax cuts for billionaires or finding new and exciting ways to invade our privacy. At least we get civilian applications.

A huge chunk of the soviet space program was basically telling the government “this definitely has military applications but we’ll demonstrate it with civilian ones” Sputnik was effectively saying “this could be a nuke you know”
