I find it borderline absurd that the voice-to-text function on my phone is so text based that I cannot say 'Gah' and have it put in the right thing (or anything at all). Agh, ugh similarly impossible. Surely there isn't a single millenial coder in Silicon Valley who doesn't say 'gah' daily and yet.

Ironically I'm a year late in asking for this; I'm a bit low on bandwidth.
Just getting frustrated recently w. different docs saying 'don't need adjusted birth date' vs. 'obviously we go with the adjusted date'. And new illnesses showing up.

If you have time, would love to hear your fav research/book/blog about raising premature kids.

Which also goes to show the seen but unnoticed nature of camera movement in actual cinema; it Does something. It is not just there to look fancy. 🫠

The single most stock footagey thing about stock footage is that the camera moves, constantly, for no discernible reason. Please stop.

She held the baby puking true,
She took three paces through the room,
She saw the frozen snowdrifts bloom,
But then the baby twisted to,
Her lips touched hair soaked in spew.
And no matter what she tried
The incubation time did slide,
The curse is come upon me cried
This mom with stomach flu

That's a nice observation, and I don't know of anything on that myself.
Though I'll one to the list that we use in my family, "You could do that" which comes from a play, where the character explains explicitly that when folks say that to him, it means he's about to do something really stupid.

My course syllabi now contain a link to this document, "why Professor Holliday Doesn't Use Generative AI". Feel free to share/repurpose or just check out the links for your own reference. It won't stop some of them, but I want students to know why. docs.google.com/document/d/1...

So dark brown/red backgrounds w. black font let my eyes relax and it's wonderful...except every time I read a doc I look like I'm summoning a dark god.

Is it a good enough use of spite to justify the electricity use?

So, like, can I who cannot code chatgpt code my way to a bot-app that downloads period tracker apps and 'uses' them regularly, inputting swamps of absurd data?

It looks like the requirement to register before getting a visa support letter for ICCA has been removed? This would be good if true? I have written to Express Issues about that requirement before but I do not get responses from that email.

I am actually not sure if I would be expected to inform them XD, undoubtedly I do not get covered by work insurance when it's privately funded.

I am genuinely curious how many other countries tax within their borders. In Canada they just decided to remove 'most' of the interprovince (i.e., intracountry) taxes. Is this really a thing elsewhere?
(And we'll still be paying tax on alcohol and food from a different province?)

Not if it's for a project that doesn't yet have specific funding. We don't have (or many of us do not have) personal research funds. So if I want to do something exploratory, it's my own money, if I don't manage to get some other travel grant.

I came here solely to say I got to be a kid again and do Halloween with my eldest last week almost like how it is in Canada and it was amazing & while I ought to be doing something to fix the world or work, I am here to share my joy, & to brag of carving a Kiki pumpkin better than I thought I could.
