Good stuff, thanks. I think it's fair to take this into account but not fair as some final judgement on Carrick.
Of note, Carrick is doing this without a summer and without a squad more suited to his style of play. It's narrow bc we don't have wingers and the FBs arent responsible for width.

It's wild to remember that, last season, we finished on the same number of points as Wolves and 1 point behind West Ham.
Was thinking the best boxers fight at the distance they want. Mayweather was a master of it...and United did exactly that. CFC fought the fight United wanted them to fight.
Watched the Carrick presser...my take away is Sat played out the way they envisioned. He spoke about wanting to 'provide extra cover' for Maz and Heaven, and clearly the team executed it.
The scouting is only 1 piece of it. Their ability to pay oversized wages (which is to say nothing of the back handers) helps.
You could have left off "in the air". ๐
The definition of a flat track bully
Massive result. Especially given it was the 5th and 6th choice centre backs

Cheers Adam.
One thing that I've come to believe is the club and the responsibilities it requires of its managers are too big for some...Moyes by all accounts is a good man but he was wholly out of his depth. And I can certainly make some parallels about Moyes' and EtH's time in charge.
Adam - I agree with your statement about the downgrade from Gill to Woodward being significant. It was negligent to let SAF and Gill walk in the same summer.
Btw - what's the name of the biography?
YNWA
1000% agree
He was set up for failure in the manager's role but would have been perfectly suited for a DoF type role.
Woodward is likely the single individual most responsible for where we are right now.
Even a string of highly successful managers could not outrun Woodward's total failure in terms of recruitment. That alone is enough to support the modern structure Ineos have built since coming in.
If MC were to lose to CFC, Ineos could look at the initial results under MC as the "new manager bounce" and more seriously consider external options regardless of where we finish.
Could be a massive tipping point in our history this weekend, a lightweight version of Fergie's Forest FA Cup match.
Oh, it wasn't anywhere near that good ๐.
Have we heard anything about KM?
I wouldn't be surprised if BF was non-committal until there's managerial clarity.
I'd also think he wouldn't want to be seen publicly putting his 'thumb on the scale' in either direction...even if he's back channeling his thoughts to Wilcox.
Do we think the club's upcoming decision of whether or not to hire Carrick permanently will have any bearing on Bruno's decision this summer?
Thought of this randomly...
Eric Cantona famously called French Football Federation members "idiots" to their faces during a disciplinary hearing in 1990. Cantona dismissed each committee member with that insult, which resulted in his suspension being extended to two months

Is the quadruple still on?
Are we still debating whether this Arsenal side is better than the '99 United side?

There remains a weird Stockholm syndrome with some of our fans and Amorim.
I'll make the case that Carrick would do better if he wasn't lumbered with a side somewhat built to play 343 whoch lacks FB and wingers while being overloaded with CBs and 10s.
If he were a candidate, I'd like the fact he has been at a big club (seems to be a difficult leap from a smaller club to the OT hot seat) and he's tactically nimble - played 343 in Germany bc those were the pieces he had, arrived in Spain playing 4231.

Youngy, I don't disagree with that either. I'm generally optimistic and think he's exceptional for a 20 year old. I hope he's able to add more progressive passing but time will tell.
Either way I think you buy this summer based on how the incoming player fits with KM.
I hope you're wrong but I have similar concerns.
All fair points.
I understand and somewhat share the broad concerns about Baleba's "mental strength" but stylistically, he seems to be the easiest fit...though it would put the onus on KM to grow as a progressive passer.
I worry about Wharton's lack of athleticism next to Kobbie. As a combo, I don't think they cover enough ground.
Just my tuppence but any of Tonali, Anderson or Baleba are more natural partners for KM.
Clearly, Spurs have found their next manager.
Which is exactly what United need to say, regardless of whether the statement is true!
