Update on where things stand on FISA: this deal is a win. We got the House to back down from an 18 month extension, buying us time to negotiate on real reforms. I'll be fighting like hell for reforms that put your privacy first, and will have more to share soon.

A tweet from Representative Thomas Massie that reads:

I just viewed 2 Top Secret FISA docs.
1) FISA Court opinion that raises serious concerns about FBI implementation of FISA 702.
2) letter by Senator Wyden describing a secret government interpretation of FISA law.
The Constitution requires I vote No on FISA 702 reauthorization.

I sent a classified letter to House and Senate colleagues about a secret interpretation of surveillance law that every American should be concerned about.

Representative Massie is right. The Constitution requires EVERY member to vote against a clean reauthorization.

Wrongful Arrests Pile Up Due to Facial Recognition Technology One client spent six months in jail because police relied on facial recognition technology to incorrectly identify her as a suspect.

These tools aren’t just biased by demographics—even if they were accurate, they’d be biased by deployment:

In today's Connecticut Post, Demand Progress Action & @fightforthefuture.org placed an ad asking why Dem Rep. Jim Himes is doing Trump & Stephen Miller's bidding by trying to get Democrats to support renewing FISA with no privacy reforms.

One of the things I noticed when studying AI is that it's potentially one of the most democratized techs in a long time. There is no moat. There's open source. You can run it locally. It's hard to lock down with IP protections because it relies on fair use to exist.

People yelled at me a few weeks ago when I suggested locally run open models were getting to be pretty powerful. But... it's true.

The Atmosphere is a rethinking of the Internet, with social connections that you control, built in. It allows you to do more with others, while maintaining more control over your own data and experiences.

Think of the Internet without the cyber libertarian takes from people that think we're still trending towards a cyber utopia because their experience is great.

I'd gladly take the hit for the good of society.

Just think of the world we would live in if Matt Yglesias, Ezra Klein, Matt Stoller and Joe Rogan had to keep their mouth shut and let other people talk. Think of the Internet without all the paternalistic I have a polisci degree so I know better than your lived experience or body of work BS.

I'm proposing a bill that bans straight white men that either make over 100k or have inherited over 100k from expressing opinions on the Internet. I think this will go much further in protecting kids and our democracy than any bill proposed so far.

I'm honestly so sick of these popcorn meme bloggers, podcasters and posters so hopped up on wanna see something happen juice that they don't care who gets hurt as long as they get to see something happen. But to make everyone happy I have a bill proposal.

There are so many people that contextualize the Trump admin as something we can just rebuild from. But there will be no recovering from this if Trump actually goes through with his threats.

Florida's Wildlife Cops Are Searching Thousands of Flock Cameras for ICE Ron DeSantis has empowered hundreds of conservation police to work directly with ICE.

New: Florida's wildlife police are giving ICE access to Flock from thousands of cameras around the country & performed dozens of lookups for immigration enforcement per month. Shows ICE is still accessing and also shows that access often comes from unexpected places:

The Trump administration’s antitrust honeymoon is over Don’t expect aggressive enforcement in the next three years, a fired Trump administration official said.

At the beginning of Trump's second term, many in the odd coalition of antitrust populists still had hope that aggressive enforcement would continue, albeit with changes. At the antitrust bar's annual convening in DC last week, that hope seemed deflated www.theverge.com/policy/90522...

On this #TransDayofVisibility we're witnessing the early to middle stages of a genocidal process against Trans people in the United States. At the end of this thread we're sharing concrete steps you can take to do something about it.
