Can def recommend mint as a desktop to non programmer/IT friends, could never in all earnesty do that before as there were always too many speed bumps. Obviously your experience will be better if you aren't allergic to a terminal and much better than windows if you enjoy one. But it's not necessary.
It's insane how much better the experience is now than when I used to use it back in college. Valve funding proton really changed the game. 99% of games thru proton, mtgo in vbox, kvm for melee. Cinnamon handles adding/removing a display constantly seamlessly and puts my windows where I expect.
Back on linux as my daily driver as of 2 weeks ago, everything is so nice now. Still playing melee on windows but with a kvm switch for my primary monitor to an alt computer that only runs melee with wasapi audio. Couldn't get it as low latency on nix tho it ran pretty well. I'm just a snob rofl.
