Staffing at the air traffic control tower at Ronald Reagan National Airport was “not normal for the time of day and volume of traffic,” according to an internal preliminary Federal Aviation Administration safety report about the collision that was reviewed by The New York Times. The controller who was handling helicopters in the airport’s vicinity Wednesday night was also instructing planes that were landing and departing from its runways. Those jobs typically are assigned to two controllers, rather than one.

Trump, Vance, Hegseth, and Combs all said they were briefed on the collision, so they all knew about this internal FAA report when they went on TV to blame minorities for the crash.

As bodies are still being pulled from the Potomac, Donald Trump and his grossly incompetent administration are blaming this deadly crash on minorities and white women. This is disgusting, racist and sexist. Their reckless actions have consequences and they should be held accountable.

With all due respect, former Mayor Whipple-its very political when the current administration in this country wants to do away with anything that protects it's citizens, even in the air. I think that's the only way to honor those lost.

So instead of Democrats pointing out that Trump gutted the FAA and tried to mass-fire them the day before the crash, we have Trump flooding the airwaves with the idea that it's DEI's fault. Dems are simply not cut out for this media environment. Too slow, too cautious, too boring, too staid.

What we know so far:

• Reagan National Airport is closed until 5 a.m. Thursday.
