According to @GrageDustin @X is the best networking tool. I’ve said it for a long time: users shouldn’t abandon a platform because of the increased polarization. If you want to be a part of the conversation, this platform should be part of your social media plan.

As educators and civic leaders, we have a responsibility to speak clearly in moments like this. Pay attention. Ask hard questions, and stay vigilant specially when children are involved.

Peace does not begin overseas. It starts here, at home, with accountability, restraint, and respect for human dignity.

For those of us with deep ties to the region, this is very real. If we want peace and democratic transitions abroad, our actions here must reflect the values we claim to stand for.

This also weakens our standing in the world. We cannot credibly support and advocate for democracy in places like Venezuela if we are willing to look away when civil liberties are violated at home.

Americans should never be afraid of their own government. A democracy depends on trust, and trust is lost when actions are seen as unchecked abuse of power or cruel.

This doesn’t only hurt immigrant families. It is making Americans scared. When people see the government detain children and separate families without transparency or clear reason, confidence in our institutions breaks down.

Now we are seeing it again. Children as young as two are being detained. Families, young Ecuadorian children like Liam Ramos, are being separated after coming to the United States seeking asylum.

When I was in Congress, I helped shut down the Homestead detention facility after strict oversight showed what was happening to children there was wrong. It was a clear reminder that government power must be watched and held accountable.

I am an Ecuadorian American, a former member of Congress, and the first South American–born person elected. As a mother, and as someone who understands what it means for families to come here looking for safety, this issue is deeply personal to me.

In Congress I learned that in this polarized environment you don’t win or lose your race because of a vote.The attacks in contested races are strategically coordinated regardless of any one vote. So, my advice is, win or lose, vote your conscience & hold the Republic together.

Now comes the hard part. The U.S. and its partners must support a real democratic transition, one that prevents regime holdovers and ensures this isn’t just a reshuffling of oil interests. Success means a Venezuela governed by its people, under the rule of law, free from corruption and coercion.

It’s legitimate to question U.S. interests and motives in Maduro’s removal. That skepticism is healthy. But it should not obscure a central fact: his removal opens a path for the democratically elected president to govern.

Venezuelans overwhelmingly elected Edmundo González, yet Maduro remained in power as an illegitimate ruler continuing human rights abuses and profiting from a narco-state.

That collapse forced millions to flee, affecting the entire Western Hemisphere and Europe. Drug cartels turned Venezuela into a trafficking hub, spreading violence across the region including my birth country, Ecuador, and Venezuela itself.

Talking about Venezuela responsibly requires context and humility. Real lives, not talking points, are at stake. Venezuelans organized, voted, and stood up to a regime that created the worst humanitarian crisis in Latin America, led by the relentless courage of @MariaCorinaYA.

Venezuela isn’t a random political event or a trending topic. It’s part of a region shaped by decades of poverty and political instability, but also by extraordinary people with incredible resilience.

I come from the region. I’ve been to Venezuela several times. I know Venezuelans personally, family and friends who have lived through this crisis. That’s why it’s striking to see how quickly people who long ignored the human catastrophe now speak as experts.

There is so much to talk about these 2025 elections. But there is one area I’m watching that the media has hardly covered this cycle: the Latino vote.
