Oh that is beautiful. What a lovely shape.

Sounds like a great place.
I really want to get to Rockland, Maine in summer, because I love it there but have only been in October and think I might hate it filled with tourists. If I don’t, it’s another check in the column for it being a place for me to move.
That, and drinking in a hospital setting is frowned upon. But I think, if it can be done while keeping staff and patients safe, anyone who’s 80 or 90 or older should be allowed a nice cocktail in the hospital too. You’ve lived that long, they should stop bothering you about things being bad for you
and by "neutral" and "objective" we of course mean corporatist and right wing
thinking abt this bc there is currently a controversy on tiktok where people are misreading and spreading a statistic from this article, saying that 62 million men were either in or interested in a telegram chat about drugging and raping their female partners when really it was like 1000 people max
flipping through a proof of yet another book from a somewhat well known liberal voice diagnosing “where the left went wrong” and i’m struck, again, by the fact that a large part (if not most) of the liberal commentariat simply does not believe that the political right has agency.
Trump vows to keep doing the one thing Iran said was keeping them from the negotiating table. Strait closed until further notice.
Just being able to smell it. I didn’t go to the beach in LA because the pacific was cold for my gulf coast raised self, but even inland, you’d get breezes that smelled like it. And I’d go to Santa Monica for things and smell it. That sea air is healing. It could fix me.
Her Anastasia Krupnik books were some of my absolute favorites. She was very much the kind of weird girl I was, so they made me feel seen, and less alone.
Will be interesting now to see if Stefanik weighs in. NY Republicans are backing Assemblyman Smullen, a retired Marine. Smullen says he'll stay on the ballot as a Conservative in November if he loses the GOP primary - which could make #ny21 even more viable for a Democratic run.
I still remember when my grandmother was in a nursing home after an accident and she was asking her friend who was visiting at the same time to go get us some drinks. Grandma Lil was over 100 at that point, and I never understood why they didn’t let her have a cocktail.
I want to be within a short drive of the Atlantic. I’m just happier if I can get to the ocean.
I saw Lowe’s selling a variety of them ffs. Claim they won’t seed, but they also spread horizontally underground, so no variety should be sold.
That is so damn pretty and I want to go there.
Which is how I found out that you need to use roundup. We’d cut them down, pulled up what we could, literally tried to kill them with fire, they came back. Roundup has worked.
My dad left them and the petunias alone because they were pretty. The lilies at least stuck in the one bed. They just choked it. The petunias are all over the yard. The seeds explode with such force, they spread far. I found a research article on how they’re taking over the Everglades.
The cosmos and sunflowers and echinacea should do well, the nasturtiums have a few minutes before it gets too hot. I’m trying to get a good variety in there that will self seed and grow and support wildlife and give me and the cats a nice view out my window.
These are the invasive lilies. Pretty, but they grew so thickly in that bed, they’re choked out anything else I tried to plant. They and the Mexican petunias (their seed heads EXPLODE when hit with water) and the pepper berries came in with power line workers on their trucks after a hurricane.
hot. And I’ve got a bird feeder seeding millet and sunflowers around it.
The evil vines are pepper berry. They grow horizontally under the ground, they’re all over the yard and are choking the wisteria and gardenia. We’ve also got the invasive lilies and Mexican petunias.
So I planted cosmos, dill, chives, sunflowers, amaranth, echinacea, nicotiana (a favorite, and it’s a night bloomer so we’d get moths), nigella, nasturtiums, and I can’t remember what else. Did one batch of seeds a couple weeks ago, then more today, and saved some for fall, because summer here is so
We put down a layer of cardboard, new soil, another layer of cardboard because the invasive lilies (idek where they came from, I’ve tried to dig them up and they came back) came back, then compost. I’m trying to get the bed filled with flowers that feed pollinators and seed eating animals.
J Crew friends and family sale, but I already got what I wanted the last sale. (Another pair of nice pjs, because those bring me joy).
I think this happens through land use also. In San Diego, see history of building suburbs for "desirables"; infrastructure backlog from miles of roads and sewers supporting sparse (white) population; storm damage concentrated in poor neighborhoods; proposed library and homelessness funding cuts.
Friendly reminder that this “wisdom” comes from a specific era and demographic wherein it was typical that the older you got, the more wealth you accrued.
