I just finished The Birthday Murder by Lange Lewis (edition published by @mysteriousbookshop.com’s Otto Penzler in the fantastic American Mystery Classics series), and it might be my favorite non-Christie mystery ever. Fantastic characterization and a great mystery — I highly recommend it!
