I weighed in on this troubling case, “It goes against the meaning and intent of the sanctions programmes if UK government employees around the world are allowed to disregard sanctions or potentially utilise their personal income from the UK government to pay sanctioned entities.”

What the UNSC, Arab League, and nations should do in response to Israel's strike on #Qatar (and the ongoing war crimes in Gaza): arms embargo, financial sanctions, targeted human rights sanctions, trade restrictions (dual use, surveillance), ICJ litigation, support of the ICC.
By declaring an intent to strike “all nations who harbor terrorists”, Israel is effectively asserting a unilateral right to use force on GCC soil – a stance that blatantly contravenes international law and the UN Charter’s respect for territorial integrity. A fact almost unanimously stated at UNSC
My statements today unequivocally condemning Israel’s strikes on #Qatar as a violation of international law.

The international community should start to ‘look seriously’ to criminal prosecutions at the ICC and other international courts for nations that are ‘directly aiding the atrocities in Gaza’.
‘I think the key for this case, and taking this outside the situation in Gaza, is that it raises serious questions about who can hold the UK government accountable to its international obligations when the courts declare the issue off limits,’. www.ibanet.org/uk-court-rul...
“the government must determine whether it wants to continue in… creating a stain on the reputation of the UK government for complicity in war crimes and other atrocities and what historical narrative that it wants to be written about this particular point in history,”

Spent part of today talking to UK citizens who have family in #Iran (UK citizens). None are able to evacuate & they are getting zero support from the UK government. If Starmer and others are going to support the continued illegal bombing-the least they can do is evacuate and protect their citizens.

Whilst de-escalation and peace negotiations are a top priority, we cannot forget that security, peace, and financial integrity are deeply connected.#MoneyLaundering #ConflictFinance #FinancialCrime #AML #PeaceAndSecurity #Compliance #Sanctions #ArmsTrade #Iran #Israel
Addressing these risks requires more than sanctions or oversight. It demands cooperation across sectors, context-specific financial intelligence, and an understanding of how conflict economies function.
State and non-state armed actors may rely on smuggling, corruption, extortion, and shadow banking to sustain operations. Meanwhile, legitimate financial systems face manipulation and abuse, deepening instability and hindering post-conflict recovery.
In times of armed conflict, illicit financial flows fuel the violence. From money laundering to the financing of non-state armed groups, or funding the arms trade for sanctioned gov't entities, these mechanisms undermine peace, exploit local economies, and blur the lines between crime and conflict.

Anything less sends a clear message: that international law is optional, and justice is selective. #Iran #Israel
they are the predictable outcomes of a global system that rewards impunity and punishes accountability. The time for vague calls for “restraint” has passed. What is needed now is principled, coordinated action to hold all states, no matter how powerful, to the laws and customs of war.
If world leaders are genuinely concerned about the rising tide of armed conflict and the erosion of the international legal order, then they must stop enabling lawlessness through silence, complicity, and arms deals. These are not isolated incidents or unfortunate excesses;
Thread #Iran - #Israel:
When a nation like Israel repeatedly violates IHL and ICL with complete impunity, and is continually supplied with weapons, intelligence, and political cover by powerful states, it is not surprising when it escalates military action and commits further violations in Iran.
