Cover for Issue 62 of Uncanny Magazine, art by Maxine Vee titled "Mermay - Golden Hour." In a forest of brown, orange, and golden leaves, a mermaid with orange/gold hair sits on a rock in a small light blue pond. She stares at her open palms, illuminated by a beam of sunlight. Purple flowers in shade lie scattered on the ground in the foreground. The words "January/February 2025" and "Issue Sixty-Two" are at top. The list of credits is on the bottom

Of course, we *did* have a referendum on this.

In 2021.

Ordered by the UCP government.

And Albertans voted 'No'.

The website is still up.

It says: "The results of the referendum are binding. Alberta will continue changing their clocks twice a year."

Graphic with the text: 44th ANNIVERSARY OF THE CANADIAN CHARTER OF RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS.

44 years ago today, the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms was signed into law. It laid the foundation for a stronger, more just Canada.

It is up to us all to protect the values of freedom and equality enshrined in the Charter — to keep building a better Canada, for all.

A Hard Day’s Night, by Samira Ahmed

A few thoughts on my pal @samiraahmeduk.bsky.social’s debut book, a brisk but detailed study of the Beatles film A Hard Day’s Night (1964): 0tralala.blogspot.com/2026/04/a-ha...

In The Highlanders, Polly has a running joke of calling Algernon Ffinch “Fuh-Finch”. Has the production code of a Doctor Who story ever featured so heavily in its own dialogue?

I’ve now watched The Daleks’ Master Plan 1 and 3 a total of four times, twice for recording a podcast, and twice while listening to podcast commentaries. One day, I’ll just watch them…to watch them? Do people do that?

This is from a bbc docudrama and that is Rebecca Front and Chris Langham, so it is not in fact "George Orwell's last interview".

It's a speech garnered from his works, not a direct quote and this scene is often shared without context, misleading people into thinking it's archive footage.

My favourite Kevin Stoney bit in Devil's Planet is how he sneaks to the back of the room while the Daleks close in on Zephon, who is then executed, and then the next shot is Stoney casually leaning on a console, looking at a screen like a badass.
